We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version kzitem.infoUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

I'd bet $50 they found out late in production that they couldn't achieve the IP65 waterproof rating with this power port exposed. They'd need a waterproof pigtail power cord like the V3 have to achieve the IP65 on this doorbell. Great find! Seeing as I don't need mine to be watertight I will power it with this. Thanks!

We've had A LOT of weird and crazy things happening in my neighborhood so mom suggested getting a Wyze Video Doorbell. The wireless didn't have the best reviews so I bought the hardwired instead. What she failed to me until AFTER it came was that our doorbell is NOT hardwired. Now that I've seen this, I can just drill a small hole and run a regular ole USB cord. This was fantastic to learn!!

Well done my friend! Great discovery and use case suggestions! Mine is currently running on 5v thanks to you. This solves my issue of adding this as a back door doorbell where I don't want to remove my old metal chime used by my Ring doorbell. I was worried that a doorbell press on my Ring would momentarily cut power to my Wyze DB. This fixes that, and allows me to be more creative on placement and power sources. However, this is first going outside my office door for a few days because I can certainly attest to kids "banging down" the office door while on an important call. Great video and insight!

My DB cam totally failed. The problem was one of the AC contacts inside the camera (on the circuit board) was not touching the screw AC connector when the back was installed. These are simple spring contacts that simply touch the AC screw insert, one was stuck down and a little alcohol released it. (bad failure-prone design) There is a diode bridge behind the AC connections that converts the AC to 5 VDC to power the camera. SO you should be able to connect 8-20 VDC to the terminals to power the device as well - polarity is not an issue. The micro USB also can power the camera. Great video.

Just wanted to say, you don't necessarily need the USB, or a standard doorbell wire, I ordered mine, and somehow missed where it said it required a standard doorbell wire to use, and ordered a simple 2 wire AC adapter from Amazon for under $10, and ran it behind some trim all the way to the doorbell(doesn't need to be hidden, but I wanted it clean). Just as an added bit of info for anyone who wants it mounted with power and have no regular doorbell :) loved the video!

Thank you for your continued review of Wyze products and particularly, this very helpful find. For the price point, I like the Wyze video doorbell. This newly-found port will allow me to install this device at two outdoor buildings in the property. Now, my only issue is the live feed. I ended up uncovering the USB port in the back and I also plugged in a USB and it powered on. I decided not to use it since the doorbell needed 16v minimum I did not want it to damage my 9v charger. I ended up just buying an AC to DC 24v power adapter from amazon. Do you think it will be ok if it always on my 9v smart charger or should I just stick with the 24v DC psu? Thank you

I have one of these. I like it a lot. My mom recently passed away, and I've been living on my own since, but my neighborhood isn't great (fake police attempts (running off when asked through a closed door to show a badge through a window with privacy film on it that turns the window into a 1 way mirror of sorts), drug dealers as neighbors, drug buyers as neighbors (asking my friends to sell them perscribed meds), break in attempts, peeping toms in the past)... Been living here over 10 years and, I am stuck here for the foreseeable future. Now with my mom gone, this camera and its intercom are a stress saver. My problem with this is: It only records 12 seconds of an event. Can anyone tell me if they have found a way to record longer events. I know the subscription is cheap. But I would have thought $3 would have gotten me a full minute, or 2. I thought I would check here on YT before bothering to try the customer service. If no one knows, its fine. But it would be much appreciated if anyone can provide some help. Thanks in advance.

Love the doorbell but there is problems! If you have cam plus on the doorbell and the led light turns on for motion it will only record video for 14 seconds no matter what because when the motion light turns off the video stops. If you go under advance option you can turn the led light motion off and it fixes the problem. I also notice if the led light is on a ringing sound comes though the audio mic. I turned the led light off because it makes the video look really bad at night. Night vision is way better. Great catch on the micro usb. Can’t wait to see your doorbell you make.

Have you asked wyze about this? Personally I have only experiences the recording part of what you mentioned, but I more assumed it was because it caught the person's motion when they were a lot farther away than I wanted it recording at, hadn't considered it was due to the light, so thanks for the heads up gotta try that! On your second issue though I think that could be an issue with either your camera, or your install, cause I have not experienced any issues with the light causing issues for nighttime recording or anything that sounds even similar to what it seemed like you were mentioning.

Converting the AC seemed to heat the poor thing up past the range of the internal bits. Disconnecting it to cool down made it work again. Does anyone have a way to mod the Wyze doorbell color? I like that my old Ring doorbell came with 3 different color caps so I could swap out the white for Bronze color. With the Wyze doorbell, it doesn't go with my all horizontal cedar front entry. I'm thinking of different options but the way it lights up in the front, I may only be able to paint the sides of it. I really hope that it gets re-designed with optional color caps or that color caps will be purchaseable. I can't be the only one that does not like the default look and want caps to swap out. I could make a cover out of wood, but the way it's designed in the front, I have to keep that exposed, otherwise I could cover everything except the camera eye, and it would look weird with part of the white still showing.

Can you add an external memory using this micro USB port?

Good question. Sadly no since the app doesn’t support local record or playback.

I'm curious if this was to be a dock position for a battery pack. Hence the packaging for each one specifically dictating that they are "Hardwired". This could have easily been for swappable batteries to plug into the back of the unit and then you just pull the doorbell off, remove the battery pack, replace with another and charge the dead one.

There’s an odd hole next to the port. Wondering if that was an accessory planned for the port. It’s not threaded but could be an interesting 3D printing project.

@@TheNetGuy The tiny one next to the USB port? That's likely a factory reset button. Push it with a SIM key.

It wouldn’t be difficult to rig it up so that your regular door bell button switches this on too. That way the existing doorbell can be used or the wyze doorbell, but either button will trigger the video camera.

You’re reading my mind. I have an analog lighted switch I’m going to put inline with a V3 camera and some other gizmos to make an unofficial V3 “starlight”doorbell :)

There is no end how this thing could be triggered if you lead the switch wires out. How about using any reed switch connected to anything useful. Like a trigger so that you can see video of a basement that might be flooding while you are away?

You spoke about using a battery to run it . Any link to that? Tganks and keep up the great work

I believe they are working on one right now. I don’t have specifics, but if you had a large enough power brick that wouldn’t turn off with the tiny draw this thing must have, then it should run for awhile. More soon!

the skybell slim 2 has the same port. I it will run on a computer until windows doesn't recognize the device then it powers down the port. I also tried a cell phone wall wart, but all of mine are smart and wont power up until it recognizes a cell phone.
