You were going fast dude! The Cascade looks good with that fork.

Suntour make great forks! I think they only have a bad rep because the make the really cheap heavy forks that break within a year if you actually use them.

I agree their cheap forks are heavy, but i have one thats been on 3 different bikes and still going strong and one that came off my Lotus that really didnt work bad! Cost me $75 ,has 32mm stantions, 130mm travel, rebound adjustment and tapered headtube

I wonder if you can tune the Xfusion to perform better on the smalls as the Tick calls it, the small bumps basically, if its the smallest bumps it could be due to stiction which can be caused be fork flexing, or the dust wiper seals. But maybe the fork is tuned wrong for small bumps, and is tuned for big hits. Seems like it has more of a Dirt jump tune. I've not looked at anyone tune this fork, I don't remember if I've seen it taken apart, I don't think so.
@theshedMTB

Doesnt feel like stiction,i think your right about the tune. Feels like too much compression damping

You might like the Rock Shox forks, seems like they tune their forks to be super plush, yet supportive. At least the Recon Gold from 2015 was But don't get those with the remote lockout as they have reversed the damper lock out so without it's locked out, absurd if you ask me. I tried it as an emergency fix for my old spare bike. When my back and neck was good, I even took a chance at dropping 1m off a wall, I was impressed with the damping, it did well despite only being 100mm. Basically the fork felt perfectly tuned for me a 72kg guy, 86 plus minus if I am fully kitted and pack pack full of water, and has some things. I won't be surprised if the other forks also have similar tune. I will eventually get rid of this bike, fork. But Rock Shox feel good, not had much time on other peoples forks.

What kept me from trying the RockShox is, first, the lower cost ones are heavy and don't have a lot of adjustment. That being said some of the better Forks have really come down in price lately and it might be a real viable option at this point. Also I have this weird thing about me that I don't like using things that are really common and popular! But I've been thinking about RockShox more lately than I have in the past!

@@theshedMTB The one I tried was not heavy, magnesium lowers, ALU steerer. the reason for the high weight on cheap forks is steel steerer, cheaper Alu lowers, and if coil sprung, the coil. Rock Shox is known for their really supple forks. But I've not tried any recent budget Rockshox forks. I got that fork on a sale from bike 24 some years ago, I think below half price. But I forgot to mention the bad experience I had. It leaked, oil all over the fork, dust wiper popped off under shipping, knocking from damper. I had two of these. So I had to send it back. Rock Shox in Germany fixed them. but did not get them back in original boxes. Weird. The forks originally came with grey dust wiper seals, they were not to spec, so I could press it in by hand and up it back up. So the Quality control on Rock Shox is really bad. I saw others had issues with this on various models, probably this one too. They did not even measure the dust wiper seals before installing them. But I see Rockshox use SKF seals now, the grey ones were not. I don't know if the black wiper seals are. But they stayed put. SKF is a quality Swedish bearing and seal manufacturer. Their seals last a long time, up to a year for me.I had SKF on a 2014 Fox 32. But sold one, and eventually will sell this fork with or without the bike.

@@theshedMTB I hope they have improved the quality control. In the past it was horrible. low end stuff, even mid end stuff even high end stuff is not quality tested to same degree, nor dyno tested, like some high end options. I doubt most brands dyno test each fork. I've also seen suspension tuners have to resize the bushings on new high end Rock Shox forks. cus the bushings are too tight, so the fork is really slow and harsh. So before footage shows stanchions not goign down properly, but after they drop down easily. i don't know how common this is. My EXT ERA came with a quality control certificate signed the person checking it at the factory in Italy.I think they dyno test them too. I remember MRP does this. But big brands want to spew out forks at high rate at low cost. And if using cheap seals where seal manufacturer does the same you get a leaking fork. This is unacceptable in my opinion.

@@theshedMTB Another brand that might be problematic is DVO, which is manufactured by SR Suntour. I saw Aston MTB had one, it failed the test before the riding began, as the fork did not fully compress. Seems like bad bushing tolerances or something like that. That's a bad sign. But so far that's the only case I've heard of, he bought it with his own money. He does independent reviews funded by lottery giveaways. So this way he can afford to buy high end stuff and test it properly, ridden as intended, and have enough time to test it properly, not just few days or weeks like most magazines do most of the time. But it's a shame a so called high end product fails this badly.

5:32 You can't compare the fork's steering characteristics between these bikes, the head angle is different, the tyres are different. to compare them it has to be on the same bike, same tyres, same wheels. Tyres alone make a massive difference, the thread pattern, compound. Keep in mind forks come in different offsets. This will change the steering characteristics. If head angle is slack you want about 44mm offset, not a 52mm offset for example. I see the offset on the Xfusion is big, maybe 52. it's intended for a steeper head angle. Maybe you tested the swapped over. The SR Suntour seems to have smaller offset, maybe 44. So on that criteria alone the Sr Suntour should be on the Lotus, but the it's also a better fork, so should be anyway. If you want to go deeper into this there is a great video on youtube about it: What Fork Offset is Best? Steering Geometry 101

Yeah, way too many differences to really compare bike to bike. I honestly didnt think about the offset ,that definitely plays into the way the fork feels

@@theshedMTB I think the rest of points you made are still valid, but as I said, offset changes the how they steer.

By todays standards this bike looks wrong with this fork, so tall top tube. You basically want a trail bike, this is a XC frame. But not a big deal if you don't go on steep trails where you would use a dropper post..

It was outright scary on steep trails! My normal use for this bike is XC, i just wanted to film it on the same trails i filmed the othe fork but it came close to throwing me off a couple times !
