X has been one of my constants since I became aware of them via early videos of theirs on M-TV (early '80s). My musical interests would wander over the years into different genres and sub-genres and even more-obscure sub-genres of sub-genres and hybrid mashup genres, but I'd always wind up coming back to X.

X is one of those bands who've made so many great songs throughout their lengthy career that it's almost impossible to settle on one single song as my absolute all-time favorite track, but "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" might be the one that I'd name if pressed to do so.

X didn't quite register with the English punks like we Yanks took to the Pistols, as they were too Americana & therefore less commercial. Still, their impact on the (world-class) l.a. music scene cannot be denied, as they never broke up, and therefore were & remained the influencial leaders of the American underground scene from the late 70's & throughout the 80's. The Replacements, Pixies, Green Day, Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Rage Against The Machine, Hole/Courtney Love, Pearl Jam, Throwing Muses, & Mazzy Star are just a few bands that owe X a debt of gratitude. MAJOR PROPS OVERDUE!!!!

I’d like to think so too. I used to email Billy asking him about X and various guitar and amp related questions he would always reply with very detailed informative answers. I’m going back a few years now before his battles with cancer. He always said X would love to play the UK again but without a hefty involvement from record companies the cost and logistics would be too much for the band as a tour of Europe would run into tens of thousands of dollars. I only saw them twice in the UK in the early mid 80s once with Billy Zoom and the second time supported by The 10000 Maniacs with Tony Gylkyson on guitar

I followed X up until the great ''See how we are'' in 87, then i stopped, not because i didn't like them anymore, it was just there was too much happening in music all around, i sort of lost track of them. The sudden fall in distribution and import also contributed to that, since i can't even remember having seen ''Hey Zeus!'' on the racks of the record shops where i used to buy from. Still all them 6 early albums are one of the columns that sustain the memory of how real RnR used to be.

1. her off-kilter harmonies were four/ fifths of X's punk street cred, which got them in the door (or Doors, if you need a pun) to begin with. 2. sure, a bunch of what she would try for harmonically came out a near miss, but when one those odd-ball harmonies would would land it, with the great lyrics Exene & John's vocals were core of X.
