Magneto, a holocaust survivor using the instrument that carried his people & him to their sure death, into a tactical weapon to protect mutants is the kind of symbolism we need more of in movies & tv series.

Magneto can destroy the planet at will, Jean can destroy the planet at will, Gambit probably could destroy the planet at will and those are just the guys from the top off my head. It's like allowing some people to walk around with nuclear missiles in their pockets and telling the rest of the people that there is no danger and they are harmless. Sure, a normal person can cause harm but a mutant's potential for harm is unfathomable. Every time a mutant is born is like throwing a die and hoping that 1) they can even control their potentially world ending powers 2) they are willing to control them and not hurt others. Normal means of control don't work on majority of them so why would they adhere to societal rules?

There’s been some theory, that it’s a reference to what happened to him during the Holocaust. A lot of people died in the trains and were whipped. Magneto, was a Holocaust survivor as a child.

Rogue flying out of the explosion from the sentinel she killed was awesome. I’ve probably watched that episode 3 times a couple weeks ago. The whole fight scene was amazing until gambit died. 😢

I had read an interview with Beau DeMayo around the time of the first couple of episodes where he said that this episode was basically the fulcrum of his entire pitch to Marvel, but of course he didn’t hint about what was to come or give any spoilers. I knew from that interview that it was going to be big, but I had no clue just how big. After I finished watching the episode, I had to just sit for a moment and take stock. It really is one of the best episodes of any half-hour show I’ve ever seen. Also Magneto yelling ‘THEY SHALL BE AVENGED!’ with tears in his eyes while lobbing an entire freakin’ train at a sentinel is just so badass.

I love how you can't tell EXACTLY what he means. The nature of this attack is no different than that of the holocaust in that the end goal is extermination. When faced with it, Magneto wishes to avenge the family he was born into and the one he found. The biggest mistake in interpreting the X-Men is to make Magneto a villain. He never was. He was always a victim.

The best depictions of Magneto are the ones that actually leverage the character's heritage and trauma as a genocide survivor. That small section of the episode was incredible and heartbreaking. Peak writing and cinema. It's better than the shit going on in the comics, with Magneto partnering up with Red fucking Skull of all people.

a problem i have with this show is that sometimes the characters smile and quip at inappropriate moments. Rogue and Gambit are surrounded by ruins and corpses, they should be not smiling and quipping. Fighting villains in many other circumstances, sure, but this is a terrorist attack. Even MCU movies get serious when civilians die on screen

No, it's ultra-hard plastic. The closest real-world analogue would be PEEK, but this is Marvel, where material science is so far beyond what we have in real life that plastic can replace metal and metal can be literally indestructible (see vibranium).

They also did this in the movie Days of future past where the sentinel creator trask says the same thing to the president.

Hey, if you're taking about 1:33, I'm pretty sure those are the Nazi concentration camp badges and not quite the Star of David. The yellow triangle was used to identify Jews and the upside down triangle above it had different meanings depending on color (immigrant, criminal, gay and so on). So, you know, horrible (as that specific configuration was probably designed as mockery by the Nazis), but historically accurate and not meant to erase Magneto's Jewish background

That specific configuration of symbols does indeed represent one form of concentration camp badge nazis used however its not historically accurate as you claim and i never thought anything like they were trying to erase Magneto's Jewish background but disrespecting true history which that contrived symbol mentioned does. I don't expect to much from a cartoon however. The original series would have done it right.

@@zerocool1istthe original series wasn’t even able to specifically mention the holocaust due to broadcasting rules around children’s shows at the time so they had to very lightly allude to it by generic “soldiers” attacking Magneto’s home. 97 has actually been way more faithful to depicting Magnetos actual origin than the original show was

Magneto taking all these losses Goblin Queen then Genosha finally a three headed sentinel that by the way is made out of metal and Magneto should of turned it into a tiny metal marble and sent it flying into the sun. I love 97 for the most part, but I'm hating how scaled down Magneto is. My hope is that he comes back. Younger stronger back in the red suit and helmet and starts dealing serious damage.

After the first batch of Sentinels were obliterated by Magneto, Trask designed a polymer that could not suffer any kind of reaction when exposed to Magnetic Fields (because Magneto control magnetic fields for a variety of purposes) so while Sentinels appear to be metal, they actually have none. And their inner cicuits are made out of gold, a non-magnetic metal

@@TitanUranus69 Nah, at the end of season1 in the OG X-Men Cartoon, Sentinels straight up said. "This series of Sentinel have be produced with plastic bodies" when Magnito tried to attack them. Meaning the early models/ Most Sentinel were made of metal, but later models/specialized models were made with plastic.
