I can't believe they didn't call Powell back for Dark Phoenix. This will always be Phoenix's theme for me.

This is one of the greatest superhero scores of all time. John Powell is one of the most talented composers working in Hollywood.

I have the Latin lyrics which is from Benjamin Britten's 'War Requiem'. BTW - I have been obsessed with this piece since 2007. I have been trying to create a sheet music for the choir part using my violin since the official sheet music (and Latin lyrics!) will never be released, although my wishful thinking hopes so. It's quite complex and layered piece, especially the inventive use of woodwinds and brass as percussive elements, but for the love of John Powell's tremendous score for this film, I shall persevere. Anyway here is the Latin lyrics for the excerpt that is featured in this video: Tuba mirum spargens sonum = The trumpet, scattering its awful sound Per sepulchra regionum = Across the graves of all lands Coget omnes ante thronum = Summons all before the throne. Mors stupebit et natura, = Death and nature shall be stunned Cum resurget creatura, = When mankind arises Judicanti responsura. = To render account before the judge. Liber scriptus proferetur In quo totum continetur Unde mundus judicetur Judex ergo cum sedebit (Quidquid latet, apparebut) - may have been used Nil inultum remanebit Rex tremendae majestatis - instead of the next line, this line was most likely been repeated (Qui salvandos salvas gratis) - passage may not have been used Salva me, fons pietatis. I will never tire of hearing 'Phoenix Rises' ('Phoenix Arises' in the complete score version) and 'Dark Phoenix Tragedy' ('The Death of X' in the complete score version)

Thank you SOOO much for sharing this information, I spent a lot of years (literally more than 10 years) trying to understand what the chorus part was saying.

@@abeljr96 you're very welcome. I was the same as you, it was a while ago that I uncovered an interview John Powell did about the lyrics for this score. It was quite an investigative deep cut if I may say so myself. I think the lyrics really suits the Dark Phoenix as it is meant to be of a goddess and how judgment day came when she unleashed her full power. I have recreated the full lyrics for 'Phoenix Rises' so just reply to this if you'd like me to send it to you (it's saved in my HDD somewhere)

This score was wasted on the story for X3. That being said, I can easily picture the scene from the "Dark Phoenix Saga" comics set to this score, when Dark Phoenix leaves the Earth, observed by not only the X-Men, but by Doctor Strange (telepathically) and Spiderman (with Spider-sense) in her quest for more energy to absorb, which she obtains by draining a far away star of all it's energy, causing it to collapse and destroy the nearby inhabited planet, thus committing genocide. This score fits THAT epic scope of storytelling, not the petty, Earth-bound squabbles that the movie depicted.

Dear Mr. Powell. Sorry for bothering, but I've just stumbled over this. The two variations of that theme (Dark Phoenix's Tragedy / Phoenix Rises) are amongst my most favourite pieces of music in my collection of several thousand soundtracks. Are there any further such variations? Like alternate/demo/unused versions, especially of these themes? Or a longer and lossless version of what you've already shared on KZitem? If so, any chances that these get released (like a LaLaLand release or so)? Or any chance to get personal-use-only access (I'd also sign an NDA or so, to not share them). The Dark Phoenix/Phoenix Rises themes are amongst my personal holy grails of (unreleased) film music. Thanks and best wishes.
