Hahahaha I actually featured on a video! I'm so proud lol A bit of context to my tweet that you featured: I ran a theory past Mark a week or so ago regarding the sniping. It was as follows. I play on 15-20 ping. Enemy sniper plays on 70-100 ping. I shoot him a few time and the sniper still scopes in and kills me. So my theory was perhaps the ping plays a massive difference in how flinch is applied. I asked Mark if its possible that the snipers flinch only kicks in after he's killed me due to their high ping. When I snipe, my flinch kicks in immediately. Mark said he was going to pass it on to the relevant people. Sniping is in an OK place now, that's why I would rather any sniper flinch reduction be added after the hit registration has been improved. And I still stand behind the tweet you featured. Anyway I don't mind that you featured me in your video. Keep up the great work.

I agree with you on Mark Rubin's approach. He definitely deserves a medal for dealing with twitter Karens. Activison or Treyarch straight up blocks people for talking shit & Mark just calmly replies. But the gaslighting part is getting more apparent because we are seeing more & more twitter bots talking shit about XDefiant & streamers leaving XDefiant for COD in the name of engagement. COD right now is basically surviving on marketing. I reckon most of Activison's budget goes on marketing than on the actual game. No wonder the look & feel of COD just becomes shittier with every new title.

The sniper flinch thing is sooooooo ridiculous because snipers always get preferential treatment in arcade 🔫 games. They've been whining for 20 years, always getting their way, and wrecking lobbies because of totally unfair sniper mechanics. For starters, these games aren't suitable for snipers, which is why snipers are such a big problem. That's not how those weapons work in the first place. Secondly, these people have absolutely no understanding of physics and geometry and why the nerfs are necessary. It's because *THEY UNBREAK THE GAME.* Just like using a smartphone's digital zoom, micromovements are going to look gargantuan to the user trying to focus on a distant object, but the camera has hardly tilted a millimeter. The sniper scopes in this game, I believe, are up to 12x. That's stronger zoom, meaning those same jitters are going to look even greater than on the average smartphone. This stuff isn't rocket science. Snipers in arcade 🔫 love complaining about fair play but don't actually want it at all. They want all of the favor. That's it. They don't at least appreciate the fact that they've already been given heavy favor by being allowed to use a sniper in the first place. Snipers are actually for extraction 🔫 games, BR, and massive mil sims like Battlefield. They're literally for stealth ops at extremely long range, not run 'n 🔫 mayhem on small maps. The weapon itself requires lots of prep time, stationary positioning, specific environmental conditions, A TON of math, and usually a spotter is needed - which is a whole other person. These crybabies have no understanding of just how good they have it with these weapons being included in this style of FPS game at all. They had the extreme advantage from the start. The flinch *SHOULDN'T* be reduced, it should be increased. They've already been playing through the flinch like they're not getting hit. It's all about timing, and those who are quick on the trigger don't even notice there's been a change. Sniping *is supposed* to be hard. That's why specialists do it and not just any random soldier. Netcode is the new patsy for FPS gamers. This is more of a Snowdrop issue than it is a netcode issue, which is why they've been struggling to fix it for months on-end. Snowdrop isn't for twitch action FPS games, and it never was. The fastest paced games on Snowdrop before XDefiant were The Division and The Division 2. Snowdrop was otherwise built for single-player and party games. People see Ubisoft and assume they only have and use one game engine, which they duly assume is AnvilNext 2.0. It's not; it's Snowdrop. They *SHOULD HAVE* used AnvilNext 2.0 like they did with Rainbow 6: Siege, but they foolishly chose not to. So, Snowdrop is set in stone now that the game is released, and it can't handle all of the map activity and extremely rapid inputs from all the players in the match. News just broke of hit detection working better when camos are removed. That's because less is being rendered during the match, allowing for precious little extra room for better functionality. It's literally less work for the engine to do, as it doesn't need to render the additional assets.
@ScottyMcGaming

Thanks for your comment... Absolutely right, on all counts... However in the engine department, the reason they chose Snowdrop is because it has a lot less issues and more robust than AnvilNext 2.0... I am working on a video about this, again, but with the in depth details to why they chose it and why it's the better choice for this game... 😎

The problem with the sniper flinch in its current state is that a single bullet is enough to completely take you out of the fight from any range. Even if you are 200m away, a single bullet hits you and you’re basically done for. It creates the same problem as a TTK that’s too fast. Whoever sees the opponent first wins, and there’s no opportunity for a sniper to turn the tables. In the past a sniper had one shot at mid to close range. One opportunity to win, if they miss they lose, but now they just lose because they don’t have an answer for enemies that see them first. One bullet and their scope is in the stratosphere rendering them effectively helpless. This problem is only exacerbated further by the marksman rifles. They don’t have that same flinch but can hit almost equally as hard at long range, which invalidates the strengths a sniper rifle is supposed to have. Snipers are forced to play extremely slow and campy and even if they like doing that, in a game as fast paced as XDefiant they will inevitably be forced to engage in a mid to short range fight at some point, and they will almost always lose because they have no opportunity to turn the tables.

I don’t disagree with you to an extent, but with the rate of people using aim bots, the aggro playstyle for snipers is something we don’t want either… I think what we need is an Overkill style perk, so anyone wanting to use snipers can also carry something else to help with those closer range engagements… 😎

@@ScottyMcGaming I do understand that truly god-like sniper players playing aggressively can be annoying for everyone else, but those who are genuinely skilled shouldn’t be punished because of a few bad actors. Not to mention flinch won’t affect cheaters. Aimbot is gonna aimbot, flinch or not. Killcams are a better way of combating cheaters than making snipers god awful for everyone. I’ve rolled the idea of overkill in my head too and I think it’s cool, but that won’t solve the sniper’s problem in close range. Switching weapons takes time, time you usually don’t have. It’s not much different from trying to pistol whip like we have now. It should be only one option for dealing with the situation. Either you take a greater risk and use your sniper, banking on your ability to hit the one shot you’ll get, or you try to switch weapons. This also adds more skill gap as you have to learn when is the best time to use both tactics. Plus it’s just fun to be able to quick scope someone that rushes you and drop them in one shot, provided you have the skill required to pull it off, but right now it’s next to impossible no matter how good you are.

I love to snipe in xDefiant. It's already the hardest weapon type to use in the game as it's easily countered by good movement and avoiding long range engagements, which is why I wasn't happy they increased the flinch so much. I mean... considering how bad netcode is and how long it takes them to fix it... that's just horrible, just for comparison, Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 recently has been released, it's mostly pve game with rather gimmicky pvp mode (super fun, probably the most fun I had in a few years, but gimmicky nonetheless) and just think about it, from day 1 unnecessary, gimmicky pvp that is more of a side mode for pve game has better netcode and hitreg than fully pvp oriented xdefiant... I am sorry but that's just pathetic at this point.

@@ScottyMcGaming once again pvp in Space Marine 2 is a side mode that probably has been built at the very last minute, with most of the budget and team dedicated towards pve content, I would argue that PvP of space marine 2 has been made with less budget and smaller team and less time than the xdefiant and it still have better netcode, as for “engine designed for it”, I am sorry but also is a bs. both the division and the division 2 have a small scale modes akin to tdm and in these modes netcode and hitreg is better than in xdefiant which is built on the same engine as both division games.
@ScottyMcGaming

@ruslanagadzhanyan2753 but the division is NOT a fast paced FIRST PERSON hero shooter! The snowdrop engine is not designed to handle that kind of stuff, not to mention this is the third iteration of Netcode, after the first one failed to meet expectations, the second one cause issues with matchmaking on consoles (the last delay before release), the third one set up just before the server stress test a month before release is the one they’re working with now… The team wanted to delay a further 6 months, but that decision is up to the suits, and we all know they have no clue about gaming, really… So, once again, Space Marines PVP had the luxury of being an easy drop into an engine designed for it, also with assets already made from the PVE… XDefiant does noT, as was made from scratch…

@@ScottyMcGaming okay, first and foremost Mark is lying to you when he speaks about engine, he is using your ignorance (nothing wrong with not being aware about the nuances of the process) about game development process to excuse his team's poor performance, why do I say it? Well cos I am a senior programmer with about 7 years of experience in game dev area, right now I am working in Dutch startup company that is making a game for medical field. Modern engines are not built to handle one specific genre (there are an exceptions but these are super niche solutions like map editor in Warcraft 3), engines now (especially if it is a proprietary engine like snowdrop) are specifically made so anything can be built with them, think about it this way, would Ubisoft invest millions if not billions to make a toolset that will be able to make 1 specific genre? They won't, in this case it would be cheaper and more productive for them to use a premade solution like Unity3D or Unreal Engine, you can really build anything with anything nowadays, for example Source Filmmaker... it is not even a game, it is a CGI movie making software that has been built of Source engine back in 2007. Now to the rest of the comment, in the division skirmish (small scale mode) is quite fast paced with each player having 9 different pieces of equipment from huge item pool and the fact that it is third person shooter with cover system proves the point even further, as it is harder to make third person shooter that first person shooter and in this environment there are no hitreg or netcode issues, as for Space Marine 2, yes it is using a premade assets, just like Xdefiant is using an assets from other Ubisoft games with minor adjustments like The Division, Rainbow six, Far Cry etc. Saber (Space Marine 2 engine) engine unique feature is hordes of enemies without performance drop in PvE, it is also not PvP focused engine and it still has a better networking component than XDefiant, once again I am willing to bet that Space Marine 2 PvP has been built in less time, with smaller budget, and smaller team and it still performs better, so why Saber can and Ubisoft can't?

Okay, now I'm a bit more refreshed and had some sleep... First off, let me apologise for seeming dismissive and ignorant of your comment... I was tired, and not exactly feeling too well this weekend, but that's no excuse... Anyway, I did read your comment eventually, my first response was more after reading your first line... You don't know me, and it's obvious you don't know the Snowdrop Engine... I appreciate your experience, but it's not as cut and dry as you seem to suggest... See, yes Snowdrop can absolutely handle games like XDefiant, but it's more suited to world-building and immersive environments, not for the fast paced nature of this game... It's like trying to paddle upstream, getting it to deal with fast-paced gunplay and mechanics, sure they could get everything looking awesome, but they're facing a whole bunch of issues... Instead they've had to cut back on some of the immersive graphics, just to get the game to feel snappy and responsive... Here's a few examples of what they've had to do: Performance: They've had to rework lighting, environmental assets, and rewrote parts of the renderer to hit the performance needed for XDefiant... Netcode: Needed a complete overhaul, it's taken some rewriting and heavy tweaking, twice at this point, and they're still working to get it right... Gunplay and Responsiveness: They've reworked the mechanics and input system to make it feel more snappy... Animations: The system needed overhauling to handle the snappy nature of XDefiant... I could go on, but if you're a Senior Programmer, like you say, then you get the idea... The point is, I appreciate your ignorance to what knowledge I have about game development... I'm not just some fool ranting into void like an idiot... I've worked as a QA Tester for a UK based developer for years, until cutbacks put me where I'm currently sitting... Mark isn't lying about how difficult their job of making this game on Snowdrop is, he is being completely honest and I don't envy those devs working on it either... Hell, apart from Mark, I have no idea how much experience the rest of the team has in development (there were only 10 devs on the team to start), but regardless of experience, it's going to be a slog... Recently, they've added more devs to the team and from what I gather, they're probably a little more experienced with the Snowdrop engine... Hopefully they can help sort out the issues a little faster and get the game where it needs to be!?! Again, please accept my apologies for the previous comment...
