I dont know if its just because i grew up with the Atari ST but seriously, i enjoy all of the renditions of the songs on the ST it better. I know quality wise its not as clear and crisp or whatever but I love that crunchy delicious quality that the ST sound chip gives the audio system and every game i have played is more enjoyable because of it. I agree, I did try the ST version before the Amiga version. I really liked the ST version, and thought the Amiga version would be just a bit better. But it was not, it was just very much exactly the same (except for the intro :-) with a bit better sound. My guess is that it was pretty much programmed on the Atari (and it was awesome) and then "converted" for the Amiga and not using the magic of the Amiga. Xenon 2 was just awesome on the Atari!

What was great about the ST was its versatility. Just look at how groundbreaking it was - a 1986 machine that was so powerful and capable out of the box that it changed the music scene. This thing could sample audio like this, plus had midi ports to connect to instruments without adding any extra crap, just get some cables and connect your instruments. Do you know how powerful that was in the late 80s? Damn - I went to a home studio in London in 2000 and they still had Cubase - on an ST!

@MrFlibble2011 OK I don't really know much about computer spec's. All I can say is that the Atari ST I worked fantastically well for me; the games were great, there was a massive range of games, and it provided all our composition and arrangement needs with Steinberg's Cubase, which I think ran exclusively on the Atari then. I'm sure the Amiga was good too, but you shouldn't knock the Atari so much because it did the job well for all the people I knew with one, especially in the Arts/Music area.

@csg8501

They might actually have produced the track by using any equipment (they had already been used to crossplatform development by that time, David Whittaker had composed for a lot of platforms by then). They could have also used any equipment for the sampling; the result would be just a series of numbers anyway. The tricky part starts at playing samples using the YM2149, which is traditionally not a sample playback chip (some replay routines being surprisingly good at that job nevertheless).

BTW... if you'd check how many Amiga soundtracks did ever use the built-in lowpass filter, you'd get a surprisingly small number.
