Maybe HK should radically expand their public housing policy to serve a wider spectrum of citizens, especially these young working individuals. They should be more committed to providing more affordable public housings for the masses, and not let the private enterprises take advantage all the time. Something like the Singapore's model would be a good reference. Although our public housing prices are also rising, they are still far more affordable than private properties.
He should have bought that 500+ sq ft apartment in Hong Kong. He should have bought it and should not worry about if the home value could go down or not. Anywhere in Hong Kong, land is gold. You need to start somewhere, start rolling, start the momentum. Don't worry about which places as long as it is in Hong Kong! Buy.

I am hong konger living overseas. watching this TV program makes me sick, in fact upset. My family used to live in good area in HK island, after financial crisis we were forced to sell the property. I studied overseas and built my asset again from scratch. I looked back, I am lucky I made it but I felt so sad so many HK people living in poverty. The house price is ridiculous for those quality! It's all cheap concrete blocks (marketing with luxurious decorations) with short leasehold. I don't think any westerners would invest in those. A minimum wage half of the western country and with a property price almost double than most developed city, do you all think that is reasonable AT ALL??! hk people , try asking yourself this question. WHY WE HAVE TO SUFFER, and seems hk is no hk now, normal people couldn't even afford an accommodation. In fact , hk people should ask for a much higher MINIMUM WAGE at least $100 HKD hourly for the average property price at the current level.

we know you are right, but for someone like you can move to canada or usa or anywhere, for us there isn't too much choice,we dun have a family like u have long term goal, we dun have a strong enough goverment cant limit the renting house, hk goverment is a small goverment control by hsbc, land developers so its not like refuse the price and u could buy the house, we only can do is make the money and step the way like your parents ;)

The US for example, people here don’t buy multiple properties. Problem with Chinese is that they love but multiple properties and city like Hong Kong don’t offer much real estate to start with.
