I have both and they are great! However the 2nd Gen sucks at getting back to dock. If you clean a large area the charge connectors get dusty and so it can't connect to the dock and just parks next to. The old one had the connectors on the side which is a million times better.

I don't know why some of these vacuum cleaners wanna put a mop feature. General rule is if it says it can do two things then expect one to be crap. I'd rather they ditch the mop and make it cheaper still. I have a mop robot from South Korea called Everybody RS700 that is specifically for mopping. Yes I'm that lazy...
@androidheadlines

Good question. So far, none of the mopping attachments we've tested work anywhere near as well as a dedicated robot mop. Also, there's no need to feel lazy about having a robot mop. Why do it yourself when a robot can do it for you, especially if it's advanced enough to do it remotely?

what a great head to head comparence.. well done. I notice you were lacking an update 4:28 for the app or the vacuum not sure if that could be the reason for extra time. I got the v1 and it usually takes around 1-minute pr 1 square meter. i.imgur.com/vpfBzFN.png they both seem to run on the same app here at early 2019 and you also got cleaning area on v1 now where you can draw a square template on the area it shall clean.. though not sure about app virtual wall if that been implemented on v1. yet. not sure how useful that mopping feature is, but the inverted wheels is certainly an advantage when you need to overcome carpets. is the new one of worse materiel then v1.. v1 was 3.8 kg and v2 is 3.5kg i reckon its the same Nidec brushless motor there are in both and the wattage 55w v1 vs 58watt v2 is software dependant and its equal after same app and the native 4 suction-settings. has been implemented even though they released under 1800pa vs 2000pa back in the day. got the v1 and been very impressed sofar.. got it cheap in early 2017 at BG 130usd recall it was some anniversary event that took it so low. and where i was lucky to pick up this and the Xiami Qi cycle.

Well, it's easy to get a low price on your product when have low R&D costs by copying from your competitors. But once iRobot and Neato will out of the business, you won't see any more advancement in these products
@xFlared

But xiaomi is unique and done many things that iRobot or any other vacuum hasn't done. They have non random organized pattern movements mapped, learn after every time they vacuum to avoid getting stuck and finish faster. They have smartphone area restrictions that keeps vacuuming specific areas. In addition the maneuverability around objects is so good it almost seems like a fiction. Yes they took the basic ideas of what a robot vacuum is from iRobot, however advancement in many key elements that erase all the negative aspects of robot vacuums (being slow, random, getting stuck, uncontrollable, and inefficient) is something that xiaomi heavily succeeded in. This is nothing new however. Throughout human history of technology development certain organizations created the root of a device, concept, or an idea, while other organizations take it and create revolutionary advancements upon these things. So if iRobot or any other key robot vacuum goes out of business, it will not mean much because the first domino has already created a chain reaction.
@NimDod

Admiral Ackbar Dont get me wrong here - I think its a great product, and I ordered one myself (didnt get it yet). But none of this is original. Everything you mentioned already existed in Neato's robot. Most of Xiaomi's robot features are copied from it, including the app for cobtrolling it. Its great for consumers like us, but if it causes companies that actually do R&D like Neato and iRobot to collapse, progress will stop. Xiaomi copies and sells for cheap - it does not innovate

At 6:30 you mention the first-gen model cannot return to the base after doing a spot clean. While it won't do this *automatically*, it WILL recall the dock's location if you use Remote Control to direct it to the start location (even though the spot clean operation wipes out the stored map). Moving it to the mess by hand is faster, but it will need to troll around seeking the dock since spot clean dismisses the previous floor map.

So far so good with this vacuum. kzitem.infoUgkx8ISPQRRAfpAaX4msGjyodObTBnlj4T5g I was a little concerned to find it seems to be all plastic, but the reviews were good, so I'm hoping for the best. Very easy to assemble Recommened, and only attachments I've used so far work well, and are easy to use. Doing a good job on the new carpet in my bedrooms and stairs. Works well on the hardwood on my main floor too. Reasonable weight and cord length. I already knew from an earlier review that it wouldn't fit under furniture, but I can use my Eufy for that, so no problem - the high traffic areas that need a stronger suction was really what I bought this for. If it continues as it's started, it will be a good buy and well worth the money. I have had two Shark Rocket stick vacs in the past that are super easy to use, but the motors just don't last well, even with scrupulous cleaning of the filters. I'm hoping for better with this Bissell.

Is the app which both the Xiaomi (and Roborock) use still only in Madarin? I currently use the 1st gen Eufy and while it's great I wish it were a bit smarter. The Xiaomi or Roborock both seem like they'd fit the bill but there seems to be a risk if it broke no warranty etc. and the Mandarin only app seems like it'd be the deal breaker. Just curious. Oh yeah and is there any smart home integration? (doubtful but worth asking it plays nicely with Google Home or Alexa). Thanks, great video helpful and informative!

No it's in English, but you do have to use the Mainland China server in order to link it to your account. The voice for us was in English by default, but that might be something that gets set by GearBest (who we got it through) before shipping. There's no Alexa/Google Assistant integration unfortunately, but it will work with everything else in the Mi Home app (which at least in Mainland China is a ton of devices). We'll detail this in the full review of the vacuum for sure. Thanks for watching!

Seth Toybes use Singapore for the server, and the app's important bits are all in English. With the Singapore server, you can use the mi Asia skill to use Alexa to start cleaning, or stop cleaning and have it return to it's dock. English is all there and easy to use, the only risk is warranty, but given xiaomi is like the Apple of China I've got no worries about is longevity so far. My first gen has given me no issues since October when I bought it. I'll buy the 2nd or even 3rd gen after my first gen dies. And the brushes are compatible between vacs too

When adding virtual walls in the app, can you block off any size area? And does the vac remember my preferences for future cleans or do the virtual walls only last for the current clean? I have chrome pedestal base bar stools and the vac is really rough on them so I'd like to block them off.
@Maniac9099
6 жыл бұрын
Ryan W No you cannot block off areas although you can select a bunch of areas to clean and not select the areas you don't want cleaned but that is kind of annoying. Also it won't remember the zones if you do that. About your bar pedestal, it shouldn't scratch it if that's what you're scared of but I do imagine it spending some extra time trying to get up the stool(s) but it definitely won't get stuck on them.

I own a Xiaomi Vacuum. The battery stopped functioning after 1 year. I couldn't buy a replacement anywhere (I live in China ironically). I would not recommend any Xiaomi products. All of them are poster-children for planned obsolescence. I'm saying this as a guy who owns a bunch of Xiaomi home products. So why buy Xiaomi products? Because, once again, I live in China and Xiaomi is the best of the crap here. Why not buy foreign goods? Chinese luxury tax makes everything foreign 6 - 10x more expensive to buy, not to mention how many products aren't even allowed to be sold here.

Unfortunately not, it just runs over the carpet with the mop on (unless of course the mop attachment gets stuck on the edge of the carpet). From what we've tested, only the LG HomBot+ does this in any way, as the mop attachment has a clip on the bottom that's designed to get caught on carpets: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqtvvIisraB0p5gm6s

Both the first and second gen have the same battery capacity of 5200mAh. Now given the fact that the 2nd gen is much more efficient in it's cleaning algorithm (15 minutes less to clean this guy's house) It's safe to say that you'll be able to clean more per cycle. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I hope it helps.

ig0tgame that could be the case. I know the speed of the first Gen was a slight concern for many people. Although, looking at videos of the first and second Gen, I don't see any crazy difference in speed that could actually decrease the cycle time by this much haha

It was a bit of a surprise to see the 2nd gen work so quickly versus the first. There's no obvious difference just watching them clean, but I think it's a culmination of all the little things (not getting stuck as often, better carpet traversal, etc). Battery life might be a hair longer on the 2nd gen when you compare modes apples to apples, but the 2nd gen will clean more space in the same amount of time.
