'Boring'? So, something that works really well, is great value, looks good, feels good, has great software, takes good photos is deemed boring? lol wut? Surely a word like utilitarian would be much more apt, or 'unflashy', 'modest', 'understated' - anything but 'boring' - it's a good phone that brings unbelievable value to the budget market - that is not BORING.

Got the Mi A2 Lite as a backup for my Pixel 2XL, and sometimes find myself wanting to use it more than my Pixel. No way it's going to beat it when it comes to camera quality and responsiveness, but I like how the phone feels in my hands. Now that I used a smaller phone, I kinda feel that going for the XL or Plus versions of phones isn't going to be my thing anymore. Also, they both run stock, so not much difference there. I didn't go for the regular Mi A2 because of the battery and the lack of a headphone jack. Mi A2 Lite has better battery life and a headphone jack. The only advantage the Mi A2 has is the processor. But for a backup phone, SD 625 is already very capable. So I agree! Go for Mi A2 Lite instead of the regular Mi A2

I had one for almost 3 months, loved the phone but there is a problem that I think everyone should know, this phone and as well the pocophone f1 has the same display panel, this display has a lot of issues with the touch, mine started presenting a lot of problem with the touch, like not registering inputs, bugging touch sometimes registering two touchs at the same time, and lag scroll when scrolling webpages, I did some research trying to find out what was causing this problem but end up failing to find if it was a software or hardware problem, in the foruns I found that a lot of the users had similar issues and a lot didn't had any problem at all. It started as a ocasional problem but evolved to a problem so large that i could not type a full word without it not registering one or two letters... at the end i managed to ship it back to the person who sold it to me and bought other phone. It's a shame because I really loved the phone, except this display issue. I have some videos posted on my yt acc if any of you want to see what I'm talking about.

What does it make of the samsung phones with the same design for 2 years, or the Huaweis and oneplus etc. Copying every design apple spits out... What is about the software, that makes it boring as well? Is the amazing Android One... for people who love stock android... You can say the A2 cuts corners, you can say the A2 has a lack of inovation, but not that its boring, cause based on that, every phone except those with the next big thing would be so called boring as well.

I'm surprised he picked the A2 lite over the A2. The A2 is a much better value. He didn't even mention that the Redmi Note 5 has a better processor, and it's cheaper than the A2 lite. Because of these reasons, I can't justify giving this review a thumbs up. Either he's just not experienced enough in technology, has a biased opinion about the A2 lite, or has a gross misconception of what's important in terms of value in a cellphone that the public should be aware of. That being said at least you didn't get a thumbs down from me. Good effort!
@John.Fielding
5 жыл бұрын
Saying someone has a "gross misconception of what's important in terms of value in a cellphone" presumes everyone's usage patterns and preferences are all the same, which is absurd. No phone is perfect for everyone, it's all about picking and choosing what tradeoffs best suit your needs. Full disclosure I'm an A2 Lite user here myself, and when I was looking at my purchase options a few months ago my number one 'will not buy a phone without it' showstopper was the headphone jack. Plenty of people are perfectly fine going without one, but I refuse to rely on a cheap, easily broken or lost dongle for a hardware feature I use multiple hours a day every day so right off the bat the A2 was a non-starter for me. I also didn't mind seeing that the 'Lite' has expandable storage (another feature I prefer to have but that the A2 lacks) and a bigger battery. The only real potential negatives about the Lite compared to the A2 that I can see is the camera quality, Micro USB instead of USB-C, the notch, and that old Snapdragon 625. I know shutterbugs who would never settle for the camera quality in the A2 Lite, I'm less picky in that respect so it's good enough for my purposes even if I might have preferred something a bit better. The best cameras tend to be on the most expensive phones, but for this price range mediocre is typically what you can expect. Megapixels aren't everything when it comes to camera quality, and if I really wanted better I would have been looking at a more expensive price bracket. For USB I'm fine sticking with Micro as the non-reversible plug has never really bothered me and I get to keep using the same 2A wall charger and cable that I've been using for over half a decade now with multiple phones and other devices like my e-reader and my standalone point&shoot camera. Meanwhile I see tons of people online who seem to feel very strongly about moving everything over to type-C, demanding their reversible plug and faster charging the way I demand my headphone jack. Type-C would have been nice, but it's no showstopper for me. The notch is a subjectively divisive issue on aesthetics. Personally I dislike the deep blockly shape of the notch on the Pixel 3 XL, but the shallower trapezoidal shape of the A2 Lite's notch I actually find rather pleasant. Obviously if you dislike the notch in any shape then speak with your wallet and don't buy a phone with one, but ultimately that's down to purely personal taste as there's no real objective argument to be made one way or the other. And finally there's that Snapdragon 625. Yes it's a 2 year old chip that isn't going to be winning any benchmark competitions against current chips, but it's got a reputation as offering decent enough performance for basic usage while also being fairly power efficient, which when paired with such a big battery means the phone's gonna last a really long time between charges. If you charge up every night then that might not matter, but I don't always remember to plug in when I go to bed so yeah having enough juice to go a couple of days between charges is very useful to me. If I actually ever gamed on my phone then performance might have been more of an issue for me, but for podcasts and videos its perfectly fine. Yes the 660 stomps all over the 625 in synthetic benchmarks, but how much of a tangible benefit would it actually have on my own fairly non-demanding day-to-day usage? Not a whole lot I think. That's just my opinion, obviously you put more stock in the strengths the A2 has over the Lite and that's perfectly fine. To each their own.
@Danko_HS

@@John.Fielding What's wrong with the Type-C to jack adapter? I'm using it with my A2 and i have no problems whatsoever. You can find one on GearBest for 2$ if you lose it or break it. The only advantage Lite has imo is the battery. I went with A2 because i got it for only 10$ more than Lite. No-brainer at that price. Bigger display, better hardware and no notch. I got the 64GB version so i don't need a card slot. And if you want more, there's a 128GB version too. As for the battery, i have a power bank in my car so no problems there either.

But the SD660 has energy savings, which 3000mAh is not a major obstacle to acquire this Mi A2. So I would say that the Google Pixel 3, which has less than 3000mAh would be a big disappointment. We already know that it has an Oled screen and that it helps to consume less energy, but it has much more resolution than this Mi A2. So, based on this, I could say that this Xiaomi Mi A2, It would be a great candidate to acquire, since its processor helps a lot to save energy and that's how rational one can be as a user when using this wonderful phone. Now, here in Colombia, through MercadoLibre, this phone is very cheap in its version of 6Gb of RAM and 128Gb and the truth, God willing, I will go for it. I would think that the next Mi A3 should have the characteristics of both the normal Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite, ie, audio jack, 4000mAh battery and NFC, and so Xiaomi would hit the table. Stock Android is so overrated though. For 99% of people ie normal people, no tech geeks, MIUI is better and more useable. Also no SD card expansion on this phone. Personally I'd go for the Note 6 (notch) or Note 5 (no notch) instead at this price.

I would love Mi A2 or Redmi note 6 pro. But in Red colour. Are they metal? Coz i don't want plastic anymore. It is not important for me that it is stock or nor. They both have a good hardware.

The only thing that really bothers me on the MI A2 is the lag in the touch digitizer. I guess most people won't notice, but it's definitely there.

Xiaomi has much more comprehensive 4G/3G frequency range for international use. Just try using your Honor in the US. NBG there.
