Sometimes xotic sp could be misunderstood ! Despite It have just 3 buttons, inside there are 4 switches and it could be a little dificult to arrange all controls !! I had the same problem ! Last year i had a SP but sold it because i did not like it ! After i start to understand compressors and how to use it i bought a Mad Professor Forest Green ( fantastic compressor ) and i decide to give another chance to SP ! So, i tried so emulate Forest Green sound ( sustain and comp kind of sound ) , and after working with all these buttons i found that it could have the same great sound of Mad Professor !! So, the tip is : insise, leave all the 3 first switches down and the last up !! On the outside controls , forget the mid sustain option ! Use only the lo and hi options , and leave the blend knob at 11 o' clock . Using the low option you will have a beautiful clean enhance kind of sound to leave always on !! And when you need to have a more compressed soun for funk/ boost , use hi option!

I just bought this compressor and got to use it in a full band setting over the weekend. It is absolutely incredible. I tested it against the Wampler Ego, Suhr Koji, and Barber Tone Press. I felt like the SP was far superior, especially when hit with Overdrive. The blend knob is the key. Really worth the hype. Go get one for yourself!

+Pussy Liquor To the left gives zero compression. Basically to the left is the same as not having the pedal turned on. All the way right is full compression signal with none of the original dry signal, and then the dip switch for low medium and high cranks the intensity of the potential compression even further, but as you increase the compression you need to raise adjust the volume accordingly.

most people have compression before boost pedals, no real rules apply to pedal order just what works for you but that seems to work better than putting it after. I have tuner, wah, compression, ods, clean boosts, coloring effects and noise gate into the amp with time based in the loop, a 4 cable setup.

12 Strings have a powerful sound and can overwhelm some compressors. I think you're on the right track with the Xotic SP or Wampler Ego compressor because they have a clean signal blend. That way, the octave strings can benefit from the comp while the wound strings retain their volume and punch.

I've tried everything: cali76 cd, effecttrode PC2A, xotix sp, diamond, mad professor, dyna comp '76 reissue, etc, etc .. and the BEST of all is the VINTAGE '74 to '79 DYNA COMP with the Sensitivity at 10 o'clock !! It gives something Magical to your sound that no one can do !! But, if you "turn of ( down ) the internal switch N.3 ( high cut filter ) , put the Sustain Toggle Switch to LOW and the Blend Knob all the way to right ( CW ), you will get 95% close to Vintage Dyna Comp !! So, the SP is great with this settings !!

You'll hear a difference in faster, clean, single note runs where the notes need to sound out more articulately. Andy's earlier demonstration of the Electro Harmonix Soul Preacher gives a good exmple of this. They also help with recording when there might be different volume levels between instruments or between strings on a guitar or a bass.

Thanks for this demo. I think I might have found the compressor I want. I’ve got a Telecaster style guitar, which sounds great straight into my amp. However, there are times when I’d like it to be just a little... fatter. Just give it a little more guts, you know? So I’ve been looking at boost pedals, and there’s some nice ones... but not what I’m looking for. A lot of boosts can start going into overdrive or pushing the amp, and that’s not the purpose I’m after. So then, I started looking at compressors. There’s a lot of nice options there too. But on the cheaper end you tend to just get “squash.” Which is cool, but also not fit for purpose. The really great sounding ones seem to be way out of my budget.. dang. But this? This thing seems to fit the bill perfectly. Just fatten up the clean tone, got the blend knob, a bit more sustain and a healthy dose of clean boost headroom. And I thought I’d never find it

I own this and the Barber Tone Press. Both very good compressors. The SP has the edge for me. It seems to have a wider range of compression (super subtle to super squishy) and it feels like it keeps the low end in tact a bit better. Plus it's tiny with a pretty green LED. The Barber is a bit tighter and doesn't "flub" on the low notes as easily. At extremes the SP can feel like playing on rubber bands. I'm almost exclusively a single coil Tele player too and the SP is always on. Just my $.02.

Mate, it's the subtle things like compressors, reverb, slapback delay and subtle overdrive that really count in certain types of playing. The reason why it's hard to hear is because KZitem videos are significantly compressed anyway, and if you're like me, you're probably listening to this through crappy laptop speakers too. Try one out in person and you'll be opened up to a whole new world of dynamics...

So this "pretend strat" of yours is in fact the latest evolution of Strat, a guitar that Leo designed using his original creations and new innovations and tweaks.
