It's good for a overall review, EXCEPT where you say a device that launched in October 2020 does not come with the latest Snapdragon 888 and keep repeating it as if Sony owns a time machine or something. Not to mention that this review is 5 months late for people in the UK and even US markets got the device in early December. Also, I'm pretty sure this is the only flagship device that does 4K 120fps HDR videography and I don't think that was covered or much about the pro apps was covered in the review to give a fair non-biased overview of what the package contains. In the design sections most would have pointed out the 3.5mm jack, expandable storage, easy to remove sim tray etc and in the display section highlight the fact that it is one of very few devices that can emulate 240 hz refresh rate via black frame insertion and is very color accurate/ gives a lot of display calibration customisation options including the white point, whilst the creator mode gives more natural colors and color accuracy. Although it is good to see that at least some effort was put into the review, compared to a lot of other reviewers who simply try to put down Sony, saying and I quote "the design is not innovative as it is glass and metal". I look forward to seeing more cohesive reviews, where reviewers you know actually review the whole package and do their research.

Excellent points. I would also add the point raised that wireless charging is not included, misses an explanation why, and therefore what is in it's place? This is game enhancer mode. True innovation that I believe will be copied by other vendors. Game enhancer allows apps (not just games) to be run in high performance mode (screen refresh, clear RAM, screen sensitivity) all dialled to max, while the AC charger is providing power, but crucially NOT charging the battery. This works brilliantly and keeps the handset very cool (it's surprising how much heat is generated by the battery charging / discharging). I can only assume the reviewer had limited time with the handset, so decided to just compare to his favourite Pixel.

@@paullittle3042 HS power control is such an underrated feature. Hopefully Sony will keep this feature on future phones, namely the mark 3 version of the Xperia 1 and 5
@xmaverickhunterkx

@@paullittle3042 The reason of missing wireless charging is probably to include the same 4000mAh battery the bigger version does. I think this phone's release was delayed due to the pandemic. I still bought it and it was totally worth it. Yeah, it ain't an 888 or whatever but not even the Pixel 5 has the latest CPU and guess what? they all perform really well. Also, if you think a phone needs the latest CPU to take good photos, you're crazy. That just makes it easier for lesser companies to get the job done, but with Carl Zeiss lenses and Sony's pro camera you get much more than you'd get from any phone with an 888.

@Chris Schuler yeah, it's 120hz, but can emulate 240hz by inserting black frames between each of the 120hz. It also has 240hz touch sampling rate

It doesn't have dynamic refresh rate like most flagship phones in 2020. Only the Samsung Note 20 Ultra and Xiaomi Mi10T series has that feature as far I know. Of course phones coming out in 2021 has that.

To be fair, the battery is quite good and very well optimized even with 120Hz enabled. I consistently get 7 hours of screen on time that includes video calls and gaming. What you can actually do is enable Game Enhancer and include apps (other than games) that you would like to run at 120Hz so even if you set the display at 60Hz, the Game Enhancer app bypass it and boost the refresh rate for each app. I didn't bother to do that but it is possible.

I have had this device for about a month and I consistently get between 6 and 7 hours of screen on time. This is with 120Hz always on and medium brightness, and it is distributed in average between 1 and 2 hours of gaming, about 1 hour of video chat, 1 or 2 hours of browsing, 1 hour of video, half hour of phone calls, and other random stuff...
