This channel is totally biased towards apple products, no doubt you guys are praising XPS where it is good but on the other hand you also justify that MBP is not that bad or any throw in any other excuses, for e.g. 1. when comparing keyboard everyone know that XPS is the winner but then you went ahead and said that apple has "fixed" the keyboard problem by adding a thin layer of silicone which is not a fix it's a jugaad (hack), fixing would be redesigning the keyboard itself. 2. everyone agrees that ports selection on XPS is wayyyy better than MBP and then you said that Type C cables are cheaper (justifying that apple's decision of not keeping even one USB type A port was better choice) 3. you guys knew that MBP cannot compete with XPS in Adobe Premiere but then you added timings of Final Cut Pro, why ??? I agree it is faster but why did you added that in this comparison video that could be part of separate video of MBP's performance. 4. you guys said that the XPS is better at some video processing but fans in throttled very much but it was annoying but MBP's fans were very quite, not sure any dedicated pro will prefer fan noise over performance. 5. in this video you have never mentioned that the XPS's 4K panel is also a touch screen, I'm 120% sure that if MBP's display had touch support then you would have spent at least a minute praising it heck you would create a separate video for it.

NISHANT DESAI NISHANT DESAI I agree that sometimes they are biased toward Apple but your points were straight wrong! 1. Can you please prove that everyone agrees that XPS keyboard is the winner?! Where did you get this from? I personally can not type on any sluggish keyboard in the world rather than the new MacBook Pro which came out since 2016. So be aware that you are not in a position to speak for others. Keyboard preference is personal and you can’t say Apple, Dell or any other company is the winner. It is up to the customer only so your point about keyboard is downright dead 2. Regarding ports I don’t even remember when I used a port on a laptop! Ports are for those who are way behind technology and are still stuck in the past because they are not able to move as fast as the technology. I personally do not care about USB-A, HDMI, Headphone Jack, SD Card Slot or any types of ports because they are all useless and these days sometimes has been invented called wireless, remote, cable less. So if you are stuck on cables then you better move or just go buy tanks with millions of ports! 3. Adobe Premiere is for Windows and FCP if for macOS. Why on earth they should be even compared on Adobe only?! If you have some little logic you can understand that they must be compared in their native system. Apple should run on FCP and Dell on Adobe. And the result was clear that who was the winner 4. Throttling is an issue on ALL thin laptops and it is not limited to Apple or Dell only. It is the matter of which company can better manage which I think neither of them are very great! 5. There are millions of videos out there proving that the most useless feature on a laptop is touch screen! There is not a single scenario that touch screen adds benefit to a system so why would he even need to bring up that? Yes if he wants to make the XPS look even lower, he could bring up the touch screen. Apple never need a screen like that because there is no point to it. Touch screen is something similar to Apple Touch ID. They are both useless completely. I hope you get my point so you stop mixing your own opinions with the truth. Your opinion is different than the truth and people should be careful when they say something. GL

1. yeah sorry you are right I should have excluded all Apple fanboys, the reason we have keyboard is to type and if key don't have enough key travel then you better use laser projected keyboards, so don't say that keyboard will less key travel are better. 2. I also don't know when I used webcam that does not justify the bad positioning of webcam on XPS, and you said that you can buy other cables and USB hubs else you are not able to move as fast as technology, well FYI those things are not free I will have to buy them (unless you are going to gift me those peripherals) or else I will have to get dongles for them (some manufacturers are not developing peripherals for USB type C yet) and carry them every where I go, I am not saying that Type C is not the future but Apple could have provided both USB Type A and C like XPS and that's why Ports selection on XPS is wayyy better than MBP because Dell also thinks about it's current customers. 3. They should only compare on Adobe Premiere because they are comparing XPS and MBP, otherwise you will have to agree that Apple sucks at running Cortana than XPS for obvious reasons and huge companies will always prefer cross platform solution like Adobe Premiere so that their employees can work together regardless of OS so come out of your small bubble and see what everyone is using, if FCP was that popular on MacOS then Adobe will not have to develop and maintain a separate version for MacOS, right ? 4. Throttling issues are there no doubt but as a majority of professionals would like better performance even at cost of some CPU throttling, MBP does not provide any kind of option for that (oh yeah I should by that external eGPU if I wanted to get extra performance or else I am not moving as fast as technology right ?) 5. I agree with you that touch screens on laptop are not going to replace the touch pad but it will definitely help in lots of cases like free hand graphics development, scrolling through videos, images, music, etc so there are lots of use cases where having an option like touch screen would benefit the user.

@walrusninja3581
6 жыл бұрын
The main thing this channel has that is holding it back is bias. From what I have seen, you have liked about six comments, and all six were praising the mac book pro and stating how much better it was with statements that were completely fabricated. In addition, the only real thing that the Mac Book Pro 2018 has that is better than the xps is the speakers, the build quality (by a small margin IMO), and Mac OS which is very debatable. The XPS has a superior GPU, more storage, and a better keyboard (and 4K and touchscreen which I have). Not just that, but the XPS is several, several hundred dollars cheaper! But your channel name is AppleInsider, so I would expect this bias. However, if you are going to butche the facts this badly, avoid any non-apple devices all together.r As a Dell XPS 15 9570 owner, I may be a little bias as well, but I am not using that as a device to promote a brand in which I have no monetary or political reasons blindly support as you are. Am I saying this as an insult to your channel as a whole? Of coarse not. I would just like a little less sub-conscious and partial conscious biases. This is only a criticism, I did find the video entertaining and well edited other than this.

For my college and recreational purposes I think a better speaker, and build quality is more preferred. I couldn't care more about superior GPU, or better keyboard unless I am a gamer. Great and fair review. IMHO, in both laptops the i9 is a waste of money. I have the XPS 15 with the i7 and in Cinebench I got a CPU score of 1233 and OpenGL score of 111.01 (room temp was about 24C/25C). I am a bit puzzled as to why my OpenGL score is so much higher than the one of the i9 XPS 15 in this test, as both Dell models have the same GPU. My guess is that both heat pipes inside the Dell are connected and the i9 is heating up the 1050Ti. Considering that the i7 XPS 15 was also quite a bit cheaper than the i9 model, I believe it was the right choice for me.

I would choose the Apple device all day long. Their minimalist approach works and to an extent negates the need to compare specifications. But, putting aside all that Apple has in favour, there is one aspect common to all Apple products that for me, and others like me put Apple way ahead. I rely on accessibility software and straight out of the box Apple are leap years ahead. Combine that with their eco system and outstanding after sales support and Apple have a winning combination. I believe in being financially frugal when it comes to tech, and I would claim to subscribe to brand loyalty, so, I’m constantly monitoring the competition, and in an ever evolving computer market there are lots of excellent and innovative products out there. But, in my opinion and for my computing requirements, I’m with Apple!

I have an XPS, I left apple, but i don’t think this review is bias at all. A MacBook Pro has an overall better build quality and does work better overall in 2019 but you have more options To save money with the XPS. As a live performing DJ I love my older connections along with being able to buy a back up computer for under 1000 dollars. Great review. I went fullHD 15 screen and bought an i7 XPS 256gb 8gb ram on sale, upgraded to a 512gb Samsung evo pro plus + 32gb ram and with taxes stayed at just under $1500, I can’t justify another $1000 with taxes for the MacBook with only a better screen, trackpad and better overall build. But I will say that those things are worth $900 if you want them. It’s not that Apple is over priced it’s that you’re forced to that configuration.

One thing not mentioned is the Apple T2 encryption chip makes it almost impoible to retrieve anything from the ssd if the logic board craps out. Additionally, the MacBook ssd is soldered on and is not upgradable or replaceable. If you’re using Bootcamp on the 2018 MacBook, you will find that your speed is worse than on a 2016 MBP. The heat throttling issue hasn’t fully been fixed on the OS side and not at all under Bootcamp. It’s probably premature to buy any lightweight laptop with i9 At this stage of the game, especially given the high price premiums.

An excellent comparison. Bravo. And obviously, the Dell isn't an option for those of us who are Mac-only and who never used Windows nor desire to. Even so, the thinner bezels, more powerful graphics card, better keyboard, more powerful charger, legacy ports and SD card slot are so compelling that they really anger those of us who like Macs, wishing Apple would end the silly Johnny Ive extremist minimalism and give us at least one modern Mac notebook that has all of those compelling hardware features. At the very least they should restore the SD card slot in the 15" MBP which has plenty of space to accommodate it. But I will say that I will not be purchasing another MBP until Apple fixes key travel on their notebook keyboards. The key travel on the 2015 MBP and 2017 MB Air are acceptable, but key travel on the 2016 and newer MBP is not. It's not just me or a small number of people who think that way either, so it's sad that Apple is not considering the needs of The Rest of Us.
@JDW-

I'll get used to "the future" when someone gives me a time machine to take me there. Until then, no, sorry, but not even that universal dongle of which you speak makes me think better of the 2016 and newer MBPs. I don't care about driving multiple 5K displays either. My 2015 has a better keyboard and built-in SD card slot, as well as a legacy USB-A port. I don't need to live the dongle life. And when I go out with my MBP, I never have to worry I forgot a dongle. This is reality. Apple ahead in technology? Oh, like always using the most cutting edge GPUs in their mobile devices? Yeah, right. And give me a break with the Windoze suggestions. You're talking to a Mac user since 1984 who has never defected to silly Windows and never will. All the more reason to mourn when Apple doesn't offer a newer machine that does not satisfy me. And I am not alone. Check out pretty much any video from Lisa Gade (MobileTechReview) to hear how her professional sentiments parallel my own. She's a Mac fan too.

Nothing harsh about that truth. They are selling only because they are the only MacBooks Apple sells. I guarantee that if Apple released a 15" model with all the ports I mentioned along with a better keyboard that had more key travel, that would be the new hotcake seller! I guarantee it. But since that isn't available as a MBP right now, nothing like that can sell, and so what does sell now gives the impression that most people are just giddy with joy over Apple's offerings. Such is not true, however. People who love the newer MBPs may call themselves realists and embracers of the future, but that doesn't make The Rest of Us happy or excited. The really sad thing is that some of you Apple enthusiasts (many of whom were likely Windows users who merely switched to the Mac in the past), take pride in bashing their fellow Mac/Apple fans rather than extended any sympathy, as if Apple didn't have the money or employees to defend itself. My beef is with Apple, not with you. It's rather silly to complain about me complaining about Apple gutting the MBP, as if the sheer act of complaining is bad, in which case any complaints about me would in turn also be bad! It is a machine after all. If we as human beings cannot be cordial with each other, all this fancy tech is largely meaningless in comparison. I'm pleased you like your new MBP. I really do think that's great. But I want Apple to embrace future tech but also bridge the needs of today too. And there are many Mac fans who share my feelings on this matter. It's nothing exclusive to me.

Awesome video Max. Always a fan of your work. The one thing I don't get is if Dell centered the display so the top and bottom bezels were the same size, rather than a bigger bottom bezel and very tiny top bezel, they would be able to put the webcam in the correct place. Is there any functional reason they don't do that, or is it all for aesthetic purposes? It was really cool a few years ago when they were the first mainstream device to really shrink the bezels but now other companies (like Apple's design) have done the same thing but by centering the display they both make it more functional and symmetrical, IMO.

You can't hear the fans in most rooms up to at least 3000rpm, I wouldn't mind them spinning a bit faster when plugged in so it could boost a bit longer. I know the 1050TI takes more power, hence mentioning more room for cooling, but I'd still be fine with that. Even at the Radeon Pros 35 watts, if Nvidia made a semicustom part in that wattage it should be better in most regards, since the MX150 at a mere 15 watts can creep up on the Radeon Pro 555 at 35. In this space, quadros are pretty much Geforces with different drivers, same as Radeon Pro/Firepro vs Radeons, the silicon is virtually identical and they don't have ECC to differentiate.

The reason the XPS 15 is changing behavior when plugged in or plugged out is because you need to select the "high performance" profile in the battery settings menu when u have the laptop plugged in and plugged out. Totally biased video in my opinion.

hevc to hevc gets stream copied directly in final cut, no transcoding (if you do not alter the video), so it is not optimizing. premiere has similar functions.

People say $800 difference betwen the two....yeah right... $2150 for 1tb / 32gb ram/ i7 for x15 (with amazing costco service)..... same specs with apple will cost you double.

Sorry but why are you talking about final cut in a comparison video? That's just not relevant. Oh look at these scores the MacBook is slower.... But in this software only Mac can use is it faster? It had nothing to do with the comparison. Like talking about Maya on a windows and a MacBook and then saying but 3dsMax (windows only) does this faster.. It is not relevant

thats pretty bad that it doesn't run as fast with the charger plugged in. It's a laptop; you'll be using this on battery power pretty often. Therefore, most of the time it won't be as fast.

My brother is PC all the way, I am Mac all the way. He quotes performance data all the time, but doesn't understand the seemless operation of a Mac, nor the build quality, or the OS which doesn't intefere or demand I update every 5 minutes. He must have gone through 7-10 laptops at least in the time I've had this Macbook Pro (5 years or more). Mine still works perfectly and I use it at least 10hrs a day, no lie (work and play). PCs are a false economomy, but I stopped arguing the case for Macs. PC-tards like bro don't deserve them.

Interesting results as most people when using these performance laptops use them unplugged. All in all it seems they are closely matched on battery though the MacBook using optimised apps will be a better bet. Being a MacOS user even the lower price of the XPS isn’t tempting, so it’s nice to know I am not sacrificing anything by going with the MacBook any longer. Not being a content creator I would go with the 1080p XPS as I suspect performance and battery life would improve and the money I save I could get an extra storage or RAM. Two great machines and very subjective as to what OS you work with.

In terms of long term upgradeability Dell wins. Everything is soldered to the motherboard including the SSD on the MacBook. I really wanted a MacBook, but this issue bothers me. On the Dell I can upgrade Ram, SSD, and even the wireless thus I can squeeze a couple more years out of it.

Please, please! Do a old macbook (pro or even Air) that runs various export at similar times as Premiere on the top of laptops on the market today! That would totally show the FCPX superiority. Because many will argue that exporting times is not that much of importance but budget is. In other words: some editor could buy an older macbook and save money and edit and export at the same time as someone with premiere on a top of the line latest laptop.
@sebulban

Please, Test with Resolve. It can be optimized for both AMD and NVIDIA. Premiere is leaning heavily to CUDA based systems(and still super slow) and FCPX is macOS only. Is both of these machines capable of smooth 4k timeline without dropping frames? With original h264 media? And if so, what are your settings. My maxed out XP’s 9560 is horrible with resolve

Oof, that's a pretty damning stat for Adobe. So PP uses 90% of the better GPU and only 20% of the inferior GPU. That pretty much confirms what everyone has been saying through all this testing: Adobe does not even try to optimize the macOS version of Premiere Pro, which is why it's a bad way to compare graphics performance. Until Adobe changes that to give us a fair comparison, FCPX will continue to be the best Mac video editor.

How soon is soon? They removed it three years ago. USB C is still not mainstream, heck, 99.99% of all usb devices aren't USB-C. Luckily, I don't have to deal with it, my laptop, which is a real pro computer, has a USB A, card reader and USB C port. I don't have to choose. You, on the other hand, have to deal with dongles!

I got the macbook pro 15 2018 512GB model, to be honest I can't imagine having a smaller ssd than 512 for boot, I used to have an alienware 15 heavy windows machine!And macbook is so much portable and very good for CS degree, sometimes I still wonder if I did'n't forget or if someone stall my macbook cause it so much lighter to carry. The keyboard indeed, not the best, slows me down a bit, but if you can get used with it, it works..What,you expected to have a mechanical keyboard inside this thin chassis?come on, don't be ridicuolus. Not good for games, I intend to build a pc.Never buy a gaming heavy laptop for college, build a pc and get an ultrabook or macbook if u want to get some luxurious premium design or u just got bored of windows like me, bored of replacing parts all the time of an old alienware, or just having to much windows laptops in the house, like 3 old laptops and all bad useless. I paid $820 for my XPS with the i7-8750H with 8GB of ram, 1050TI video, I wanted the nontouch 1080P and 250gb NVME with 4 years of warranty. That was $820. I then bought my own upgrades. 32GB of ram $179 and a 500GB NVEM SSD $120. I spent $1119 on this computer with 4 years warrant parts sent to me. Apple cant compete with that nor can you buy warranty where they send you parts. The Dell can have a smaller battery and support 2.5 drives for extra storage and if you get the non touch the screen is brighter then the macs. The XPS has hardware encryption is called TMP or TTP and is enable with Windows 10 Pro. Ether or Do not get an I9 processor stay with the i7 if your getting eather laptop. The i9 is useless and a waste of money.
