Hey Eedo! My experience of the Nexus (1 and 2) is that it loops much like the GTS and jumps about the same. It's significantly faster turning than the XR, however it lacks the sheet in and go that the XR gives. The Nexus excels as an all-round kite. Awesome video and that 8 second intro made me laugh! Janek - have you thought about auditioning for mop commercials...? 🤣🤣🤣 I have 3 questions. 1) What are the best settings for - leading edge CTI - wingtip loops - 3 knot backline attach points for BIG AIR on the XR kite. Steven Akkersdjk did a great vid covering this topic but I dont think it was very specific to just the XR kite and just for big air. What do you 'the pros of old-school, big-air and looping' opt for in terms of the above settings for the XR kite? 2) Are the above settings the same for your 7m to your 13.5m XR kites? 3) Do you still keep your bigger XR kites (11m and up) lower to the water before initiating the 'Send Kite->Hop->Pull Bar in->Pop' for big air jumps? Appreciate your awesome creativity and hard work!! ❤

I always use the same settings, the original connections, the same as it comes from the shop. On all my kites. Hi Guys, you mention the responsiveness of a kite. You say, that the GTS has more feedback. For me responsiveness is very important, I prefer to feel the kite in my hands when I'm up high and doing several rotations. I never thought that a kite like XR, North Orbit, Naish Pivot could fit me. I tried the XR6 11m and I didn't like it. Because of the lack of the responsiveness. If I would like to improve in Janek's style should I give up the responsiveness for the extra height and hangtime that a delta kite can provide? Just an example: I ride an RRD Obsession (maybe my favorite was the MK10 with 4 lines) 10.5m. I can jump high (12-16m) and do 2-3 inverted rolls. After switching to an F-one bandit 10m I could even land a high inverted roll on my first 2 attempts. And I think it was because of the lack of response. Do you think that I should practice more and get used to the softer bar pressure and responsiveness? Then I will be able to do crazier tricks with a delta kite?
@JanekGrzegorzewski
3 жыл бұрын
When we said that the kite has more responsiveness it was because the kite is faster, it flies nicer in different windows than the XR. When you loop you can feel it going around with power and bigger tension where the XR doesn't have something like this. XR feels heavier on the bar compared to the GTS. I would say, if you want to go high, you should get used to the XR. I have heard a few people saying that they don't like the feeling of it. I just think it's because it's different but way better.

I don't think that it is possible to have top gear for each category. if you like to go high and do big loops I would get a small XR as freestyle isn't good with small kites. From 9m and above I would consider c shape for freestyle, maybe a 9m GTS would be a good idea as it is a big air kite as well as freestyle.

Hi Diogene, I’m only intermediate, but I had Switchblade 6, 8, 11 and contra 13, 15. Until I got to ride XR at Real- now I only have XR. I find the XR smoother and easier to control, the quality is so much higher- very tough and robust, plus the tip shape make it much easier to relaunch than the corners on the SB. Also the CIT settings do a nice job of tuning bar pressure / response vs just the turning speed connections on the SB

Hi Mike. I was planning to get a 13.5 m2 XR for one footers, start with board offs and rotation tricks. In light winds up to 20 knots. The Nexus 2 10 m2 for kite loops, kite loop backrolls, rotations and one footers. In medium wind force. As it has mor lift than GTS but turns faster than XR. Last but not least the GTS 8m2 mainly only for progressing in bigger kite loops starting around 30 knots and up. I don’t like smaller kits for rotations and board offs. They move too quick for me and I really want to start to send big kite loops. So that’s the plan. As it’s a lot of cash I really would like to get your thoughts on this. Many thanks in advance. Well only one bar with 22 m lines. I know myself if it’s wind I just want to kite and not waste time on changing line length.

XR is a different kite. I have heard few people saying that they don't like how it feels, Mike and I love it, and it is our favorite kite, and for some reason, this kite has made world record jumps for the past few years. I believe you just don't like how it feels because you haven't gotten used to it. But trust me, once you get the feel of it, the progression will come by itself.
@GestaltReality

I just got an XR12 after having mostly flown cabrinhas, and was also initially put off by the lack of bar pressure. It took me a little while to learn where the kite was as I couldn't sense it as much. Once I got the hang of it I learned to love it. In gusty or high winds there is a lot more give, so it's not as tiring as the kite has a more absorbing quality to it. Also when jumping or turning you can really load the kite gradually and therefore control it's explosive power when sending it fast. I find the kite does more of the work than my arm muscles in controlling the smoothness of power delivery compared to a kite with higher bar pressure. The XR can be just as responsive which can feel like a paradox and this took a while for my brain to sort out.

I’m looking into getting some big air on a foil. I’ve been using the 9m nexus and I want more air haha. Do I go with the XR? And if so then what size?
@JanekGrzegorzewski
3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I'm not the best foiler and I only go on a foil to cruise around without doing jumps and I always take the Nexus. XR is not the best for the Foil. It flies in a smaller window which makes it harder to foil with. I think if you would just want to go for a big air session on the foil the XR could be a good choice, but when cruising around, doing turns it might give you some troubles.

What's your weight? Would you still recommend 8m XR for 80kg rider? Wind at my spot rarely goes past 25knots.
@gethighwithmike
3 жыл бұрын
70-73kg, it varies with how much sushi I'm eating 🤷 If you're kiting in the same conditions as me I'd still recommend an 8m. If there isn't enough wind for an 8m I wouldn't recommend it though haha The 7kg weight different isn't that significant when you consider technique

@Jose please check out my comment above about the wind speeds I fly my Xr in. I wouldn't recommend 1 kite to cover a 20 knots window of 20-40 knots. 8Xr is great for an 80kg rider in 25 knots of cold wind :)

@@gethighwithmike thanks for the reply Mike, I was just wondering if I would be able to tame the beast when it gets around 40knots as I have done before with other 8m (not fun tho it's more about survival than fun) but I guess the safe bet is to go down to a 7 or 6 for anything above 35 isn't?

What is the difference between carbon harness and normal harness for big air? Is Carbon harness safety?
@JanekGrzegorzewski
3 жыл бұрын
It's not really about safety, it's more about what you feel more comfortable with. Normal harness tends to be softer on your back where the carbon harness is harder. It is just a preference. Carbon harness also keeps its shape better.
