Look at the owner manual for directions the bike needs to be idled for 5 minutes before checking the oil it’s a dry sump and drains down over night. 👍

Stock pipe makes the most power the muffler is probably the only part I would change to something else. Other than that it’s a solid bike that can do everything. Nice buy man.

I picked up my 22' three weeks ago. Had to laugh about your dealer experience.. when I picked up mine.. rode it away.. noticed speedo was inoperable.. rode back and they forgot to install retaining screw.. crazy! Have 38 miles. Live in Arizona and having a blast.. Enjoy!!

The oil level can be VERY finicky on these. Let it run for 2 mins than wait and check do not screw in the cap when checking. It should be half way between thr upper and lower marks

I bought a 2008 with low miles had all the right mods. on it. IMS 4 gallon fuel tank, JNS LED headlight incredible how it lights up the road. Dave's carb mod. stock pipe I'm glad that wasn't changed I don't like loud exhaust. Pro taper bars and risers, new sprockets and Pro taper Pro series chain. and few other mods. luv this bike it's my first dual sport I'm already ten years younger. Aloha, from Hawaii

i had a fmf and they are a good muffler if you do it on a dyno with the Jets and grind out the intake manifold restrictions. the factory air filter is ok but the air box restriction needs attention. a acerbis fuel tank 0001590 in clear or white or red gives you about 23 Lt , can get a lock cap for them also. says XR650L 1993- 1996 but i very much doubt it won't fit because the bike is the same. today (except for smog) get some moose Inner tubes and you will never need to worry about a flat. some mid wide or pivot peg's, mid wide is fatter than standard but in the same position . pivot peg's feel different from standard so maybe try someone else's bike before getting them but a good when you get use to them. some frame protectors for where your boots rub will stop you from rubbing off the paint on the frame tube's. i also like pro taper bars with bark busters but that's just me because i keep on breaking leavers.

Second the oil level being finicky, read manual, never check cold, start and warm is required to get correct oil level, desmog kit is a must, dynojet kit for best power stock, muffler is good but heavy, lithum battery, aluminum handlebars. Get used to stock tank, oversize makes too heavy

XR's Only muffler is the best. Header looses power in lower rpm's where this thing is the best. XR's Mikuni made my stock 8.3 way more fun. If your talking Kaplin vid, they like the muffler.

These bikes are cheap enough to buy new. Hopefully in a few months the expensive freight and set up will be a little cheaper as dealers sell fewer and fewer if the economy slows down a bit. Your right about price difference. used one have gone up a lot and in many cases are just has expensive as new ones but without the freight charge. This is how dealers justify the full price. Not for me.

I checked with 13 different dealerships in NC. (A couple in your area - I'm near Winston Salem). The best price I got was $ 7978.00 OTD at Honda of Shelby, NC. I actually purchased this one in Lowell, NC for $8,000.00 OTD simply because the $30.00 savings in driving further down to Shelby wasn't wroth my cost in gas / difference.

Wanted to make sure the break in was done right, has only 20 miles on it, already knows it got some power, guess you already gave it W.O.T then which is not the proper break in 😆, but I could be wrong 🤷♂️.

Ok so when you checked your oil level did you check it cold? The proper way to check your oil level is to take the bike off the stand and hold your bike dead level while you run it for exactly 2 minutes and then turn the motor off and check it and that is the proper level. If you have checked the oil level while it is cold and you topped it up then you will have too much oil in it. Also while checking the oil level and running it for 2 minutes make sure you are on level ground. And before running it for 2 minutes the motor should be cold.

@@jonbain838 Not the head pipe. I would and have used yoshamira and fmf Q is to restricted. I ceramic coat the head pipe silver. And u can grind down welds inside head pipe for a tad more flow. Aftermarket head pipe isnot gonna give u any gains on a stock motor .
