@@gaskellr44 There is not a particular song, certainly not. They are not copycats. It is the general use of harmonies, composition and vocals. Same as Dukes of Stratosphear is not a direct copy, but a refined and perfected psycho-pop that includes influences from Pink-Floyd, Beatles, and Beach Boys. They played almost everything and every popular style, that's the amazing part.
@gaskellr44

@@krollpeter Right, well I agree will all you have said, heard Dukes for the first time about a year ago and thought it was really strong and a great homage to the said bands but with XTCs idiosyncracies. Yes, you can tell the influence of the Beatles in their compositions. I wonder if Colin M has the better harmonies and Andy more the stronger lyricist? You could also even say ABBA were inspired somewhat by The Beatles, especially as they were masters at harmonies, but with even better singers...i.e the females. I had heard all the hype many years ago about the album Sky...and it took me till about 3 years ago to finaly listen to it and it grabbed me after about 3-5 playes as it can take me time to absorb albums. It is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion and I'm sure I'm not on my own 2nd only to Radiohead's Ok Computer.

Ivan Lendl I get it .. I was very saddened when I had heard that Colin Moulding have "quit making music". As prolific and talented a songwriter Andy is, let;s not forget that Colin writes some wonderful songs as well .. three of which are my favorites on Skylarking as well as many other contributions from him. I was fortunate enough to see them perform with Terry (drums) in NYC back in 1981. Even though major record companies are always pushing bands to tour to promote their product, as a die hard fan, whenever XTC announced an new album, I was going to purchase it sound unheard .. it is a shame that we will probably not see another XTC with Andy, Colin and Dave at eh core but who knows?

"Immediately forgettable?" XTC songs have so much more going on than typical pop fare that they simply take more listen-throughs before they sink in. But once they do, they last so much longer than the stuff that sounds catchy right out of the box but fades away soon after. It's worth noting, however, that _this is a musician's band._ They're not really for the consumer who prefers a quick-hitting radio-friendly rush.
