It took several tests to work out some kinks and we still need a modification or two but the rotary attachment opens up a ton of more possibilities and is also... way too much fun.

Hi Both, I really like the results you achieved but there seems to be a lot of changing things around to get the various extras to work. I don't understand the need for the chuck as the rollers seemed to work perfectly. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun a bit as you will probably show the chuck in a future video. Take care both. Cheers, Huw

That is actually an outstanding question and I would expect no less from one who is so experienced with turning wood! Examples of items for the chuck... mugs with handles, glasses that are not perfectly vertical, Christmas Balls, rings (wedding bands) and so much more. We will definitely have future projects using the rotary attachment in more detail. Thank you for being first to watch as always. :-)

Hey Richard & Jenifer, it’s been a year now since the video posted. I was wondering if you both still use the M1? If so, how has it been doing? Also, have you both try WeCreat and which would you prefer, M1 or WeCreat? Thanks.
@Poor_Mans_DIY

I most definitely still use the M1. So much so that I purchased a second one. I have other lasers that I also use regularly now because I can make larger items with them. The M1 works fantastic with precision work. I have not worked with the WeCreat so I am unable to make an educated comparison. I hope this helps.

My machine doesn't tell me the time it takes to print. Why is that? I have the M1
@Poor_Mans_DIY

To be honest, I dont think any software's estimate is perfect. other software provide an estimate but the countdown clock often goes beyond the estimate. M1 uses software called xTool Creative Space (XCS). XCS does not provide and estimated time of completion but once you begin, there is a bar that goes around a circle, to reflect how much of the work has been completed. I use this to get an idea of how long it will take. For example, if the bar is 1/4 full and it took 1 minute up to that point, I estimate it will take 3 minutes more to complete. In other words... it is just a guessing game for me but it is usually pretty effective. I have also found that if it is taking too long, I can pause the project, leave the M1 and computer on and resume later and it will continue where I left off. Only problem with this is that you leave your laser on, even though it isn't engraving. This will still make it heat and cause wear and tear. I am sorry I could not provide something more definitive. :-)

@Poor_Mans_DIY

Thank you for the kind words, and for watching our video! I do not have any blank pen stock. Which pens are you wanting us to engrave as a tutorial? Although I have not engraved pens, I suspect they are far too small to make it worth using the rotary. I would probably set up a jig using legos as we have shown in our "tips" video and then use a small font that will not be effected by the curve of the pen. I have to do some further research but I believe Lightburn software can be used to fake the curve without a rotary. If this is true, it would be easier than setting up the rotary over and over for each pen. (just thinking of possibilities out loud)

What settings did you use for the black water bottle ?
@Poor_Mans_DIY
Жыл бұрын
Please forgive the late response. We used the same settings for engraving metal business cards and it worked for us but each water bottle is made differently and the settings may not work for you. The best thing to do is perform many tests to get the right settings for you. Unfortunately, this means wasting a water bottle, performing tests.
