Presented by Rebecca A. Hosey, RN, BSN, MPH
Also known as "tranq", xylazine is a non-opioid tranquilizer typically used in veterinary medicine. Xylazine is increasingly associated with overdose and the unregulated drug supply in areas some areas of the US (e.g. Pennsylvania, Maryland, Conneticut). Xylazine has also been identified through drug checking projects in some parts of Canada.
There is some evidence of the association between IV xylazine and skin ulcers, abscesses, and lesions. In this webinar, Rebecca A. Hosey will provide an overview on xylazine-associated wounds and wound care. Topics will include history & origins, mechanism of action, wound presentations & management, health/systemic effects, and resources
