There's many different styles of karate and kumite. But when they're this close and just hitting repeatedly there's not much technique happening and mostly just a matter of who can kick or punch the hardest, fastest, or most or whenever your opponent gets hurt. Sure there's technique to deliver kicks and punches with power but again, at this close distance much of that is lost. This style is more like kickboxing. Try getting in clean at a distance or with one or two attacks with good timing. Now that is real karate.
