對亞洲人來說,以我而言,小學時外語沒那麼流行,像英文這種國際語言也是到我小三時教育部才改為必修 儘管小一就發現自己對外語有興趣,但那年紀要取得資源真的不容易呀(當時的我只認識google 翻譯😂 身邊也沒人會講英文,最後求了爸媽好幾個月才得到去”cram school “的機會~ I have to say learning foreign languages indeed takes a lot of time, but I was like I’m literally fond of doing it. Hope I can be like Ella, having the chance to experience different cultures someday!!

Christina 分享文化背景這段非常有共鳴!剛去西班牙讀書時,發現即使會講對方語言很也難深入地交往,如果雙方都對彼此的文化很陌生,很難建立較深的友誼關係。
For you two conversation in the video, that's true friendship. I was impressed by Ella's language talents, also the content of this video. Thanks for Christina's video, it is a lot of "good to know" things. Always enjoy watching your video. ❤😍🎉😄😊🎉!
It's a good story and the reason why you want to come to Taiwan. As a language learner, I understand how eager we can talk to a native speaker in a country where people speak the language you are learning. It will be interesting because you will take many things from your new life in the country such as culture and different lifestyle. I started learning English recently, so I have the same feeling as you. Many things make me positive, and one of the reasons for learning languages constantly is cause it makes me more powerful and has more confidence to talk to foreigners when they answer in a friendly way toward me. Language is a tool to make friends, just speaking and letting them know what you want to express.

I think Miss Ella is hardworking and made a wise choice to learn something new, such as a new language.
Hi. I'm from Oxford and have lived in Asia a long time. Been in Taiwan for 7 years. Best place I've been here is Taitung ( Taidong). Mountains, beaches (167 kms) forests , fresh air . But in Keelung and Taipei most of the time.
It's amazing that people from different background and location can meet at a totally new place and become close friends.

Wellesley College! That is the one school I would want to go to study if I could study in US (well, eventually I studied in National University of Singapore under a scholarship). I visited it in 2004 when I travelled to US. I've also visited Harvard and MIT on that trip. Wellesley is just so different. I still remember the banner hanginig around the lamp posts on the campus "make a difference". And its great alumnus testifies to that. Ella, you have made a great decision to study Chinese. I totally agree with Christina, the language is just a key to a door. Once you understand the language, you could explore the rich history of Asian culture. It is very different from the latin/Greek system which the entire western civilization was built on. But both cultures were amazing. I always say that you have to stand outside of your own culture, in order to understand your own better. My last trip to Taiwan was 2014. Missing the place, especially its night markets. After Covid, it is top on my travel list in Asia.

Wellesley is a small college. Classes are small. Relationships between student and teacher are intimate. U can really learn.
