The "chemistry" never really existed. Yagudin told in interviews that there were already problems between them and that he even thought that Mishin was disappointed when he won the European title because he wanted Plushenko to win it. True or not, it shows that the tension was already there.

His jumps are really the best ones and the amplitude is just amazing. He would probability have realized quad axels with Mishin but Tarasova helped him to improve the artistic side and he became really strong artistically: his series of steps are just inimitable and the way he makes live his programs is unique.
Yagudin and Mishin couldn't have stayed together after 1998- This euros demonstrated to Mishin (and the rest of the figure skating world) the potential of his wonder kid Plushenko and Plushenko became Mishins no 1, I love Yags with Tarasova-she transformed him and it gave us winter, For me its more interesting to imagine what Plushenko could have achieved with the influence of Tarasova- Plushenko was the more creative of the 2 if you see them in the early years and technically was capable of anything (steps, speed, flexibility, jumps) I love them both and miss Yagudin a lot (even though for me Plushenko is the greatest)
