Great review, love that you really put the thing to test along with talking through the different modules/options. I Also experience it not registering as locked when using the manual lever. I have the August module with auto lock so after that triggers it'll show correctly as locked.

Installed the CBA version. Hardware was easy to install although I had a bit of trouble extending the deadbolt to the longer setting. The software setup was a bit harder with poor instructions from August, but thanks to KZitem I finally finished up. First time using the Auto Unlock I was pleasantly surprised to see a message come up on my watch (with the August app on the watch) that the door was unlocking for me. Nice to see that because I had my arms full of takeout food.

Great video. I have 2 of these locks. Both in my laundry room and paired with Hubitat using Z-Wave. The biggest problem I have is that they don't like the z-wave mesh. I have repeaters all around it. My whole house is full of repeaters as all my switches are z-wave plus repeaters and I've been able to map out the mesh and view things such as link speeds etc to verify everything runs at 100kbs except the locks which use 40kbs, but that is more than enough. When I put my hub in another room they don't like to go through the repeaters and constantly fail either receiving or sending the messages. When I put the hub in the same room they go straight to it and work flawlessly. I've done the mesh repairs and everything that you can and its just these locks giving problems. All other devices work fine. I bet your hubs were in the same room as the lock but would be great if you could test them with hubs in another room and see if that makes a reliability difference.

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 Have to vent, and I know you'll appreciate it. So, come home from work and wife tells me we need to change codes on Schlage locks. I try unsuccessfully for an hour using Lock code manager in Hubitat. Then remembered your video where you had to use a long network cable and get close to locks. Didn't have one! Ordered one on Amazon and will try again as soon as I get it. Urgh!

Great video. I was a little disappointed this wasn't 100% reliability like the 156. However, it's hard not to get the latest and greatest in the 256. I definitely have a better understanding of the models; thank you. I, personally, don't have air bnb or homeaway use cases, and expect the auto unlock on arrival to be done by Smartthings (as you said you would cover later), so I think the zwave version is right for me to save the $$. I can't really see other benefits I would be missing. The loudness of the Schlage probably pushes me to the Yale, but I'll still contemplate for another week. Thanks!

As a Hubitat user, would you say the August Connect model would still be a good call, as I do like the added features. The Zed-Wave (yes, I wrote Zed too, so what 😉) has less to offer in my books. The app is feature rich, could never achieve this with a Hubitat dashboard...

HI. I have the Yale Smartlock (z-wave YRD256-ZW2-619). Samsung Smartthings hub, Amazon Echo Alexa. iPhone 7. QUESTION: When I have a party, How do I quickly turn auto re-lock on/off from an app instead of using the touchscreen? Touch the keypad with the palm of your hand, then enter the master code followed by the ‘#’ Select the ‘9’ button followed by the ‘#’ Press ‘1’ for auto re-lock on, or ‘3’ for auto re-lock off Press ‘#’ to complete.

Great video. Got confused a bit with the 4 versions. Rebuilding house after a fire. Apple guy so I understand the iM1 is apple-friendly so why not get the CBA which is also apple-friendly? I don't know much about z-wave, zigbee, august, or any other 'bridge'. Like simplicity. Will have Lutron lights. Finally, I hear Schlage is another good option. Any direction you can provide would be awesome. Thank you.

@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 I was able to do it. Thanks so much. Just for other viewers who encounter the same problem - the module needs to be reset. It can be done from the lock keypad itself. Here's the instructions that worked for me: Using the keypad, enter the Programming Menu on the host lock: 1. Enter the Master PIN code to get to the Programming Menu 2. From the Programming Menu, select the gear key 3. Press the number '7', then the gear key 4. Exit the menu by selecting the 'Previous' button (the red back arrow in the upper left corner) or wait for the menu to time out

Questions. If I get the YRD256NR and get the connected by august kit for it, will it work like the YRD256CBA with the auto unlock?
@DIYSmartHomeGuy1
3 жыл бұрын
I believe so, but not 100% certain. The modules are interchangeable in the YRD256 (meaning you can swap the August, Z-Wave, and Zigbee between the same lock). This leads to my assumption that you can install a radio in an NR, but I've not personally confirmed that fact. Thanks for watching.

Hi, fantastic video. I was looking at setting up an Airbnb in the uk and there is nothing I could even close to this over here in the uk, this augustXYale lock does everything I need. If we were to have a deadbolt and to ship it over from Amazon US do you think the august module would all work as usual in the uk? Are there any other keyless with a code options that do the same thing I could check out too?

If you are using the Wi-Fi lock with the bridge you'd probably be ok. If you're using Z-wave, the frequencies are different between the USA and UK. I'd check the Yale website to be sure.

If you need your neighbor to entire at anytime, give them a passcode. If you want them to only have access sometimes, you could create a passcode in advance but only send it to the neighbor when they need it the one time.
