I have the coffee burst version of this bass. They really are fantastic instruments, I love mine and the setup out of the box was perfect.

The coffee burst looks very smart, especially well set off with the hardware colour choice. A bass that will surely appreciate with age and give years of satisfaction. Thanks for your comment and enjoy your music. Regards, Michael

On this bass you can flip the bridge pieces upside down to add a steeper angle. I do it on the E string only my self

My BB735A was sent to me the same way yours was. There was too much bow, and the strings were high for my soft to medium attack type of playing.

I hope you have been able to set your guitar to suit. It's surprising that such a good quality guitar hasn't been set up before shipping. A fine instrument however which I'm sure will serve you well. Thanks for taking time to share your experience. Best wishes Michael

Great informative video. I’ve decided to buy one, but will it need extra long strings with that strung through tail end?

Hi Nick, thanks for your comment. Standard length long scale bass strings should be ok. Enjoy your new bass, they are good. Regards Michael

Michael, do you think that upgrading the tuners would be warranted, or are stock just fine?

Hi thanks for getting in touch. I normally comment on tuners if they seem to be worth changing. I don't have access to that bass at present to double check. Overall, it was I recall very impressive. Best wishes Michael

What is the recommended relief height at the 7th/8th fret for the 734A?

Hi Terry, thanks for your message. I don't have exact measurements for the neck relief, however I have found that the relief isn't crucial to the thousandth of an inch as per my videos on set ups, however that is just my view and I am not a luthier. I recommend taking a look at Ted Woodford's channel. He has lots of info with data for setting up guitars. I hope you find the specs that you are seeking and please do share them if you will, as my objective is to have fellow enthusiasts bringing issues to share. I appreciate your taking time to comment. Best wishes, Michael

Thanks Michael! I will look into the site you mentioned and see what I can find out. If we consider how a Fender with a 9.5 to 12” radius is set up by factory recommendations, the relief should be 0.12” (or 0.3 mm) at the 8th fret. I’m not sure about the Yamaha but I do know the 734a has a 10” (250mm) radius, so that measurement is probably in the ballpark. Anyway, I will definitely see what I can find and report back! And thank you for the review. It really helped me to decide to buy the Yamaha. I own two TRBX (304 and 305) and now the 734a in DCS. Love all three of them!

Yamaha Support stated that the correct neck relief for the 734a is 0.2 mm at the 9th fret. Interesting considering Fender suggests 0.12” (3 mm) at the 8th fret. That’s a considerably higher neck relief.
