Great video, thanks for taking the time to put it together. Sending my boys out back this weekend to change the oil on their two Yamaha's and your video will be their required study material. Thumbs up!

9:00 Mine is always so tight like that on my 07 450. And I never tighten it that much at all! Roughly 15lb torque. Just a snug past hand tight. Only on one other car in my lifetime, was it always like that. To the point to where I maybe take it off once a year. And use the other drain plug the rest of the time. Gets a good majority out, especially on ramps.

Great video, but please tell I missed a trick to getting that spring plug back in 😢 been trying to get it started for 45 minutes 😅
@AndyMechanic
4 ай бұрын
I think it's just a skill you develop over time though oddly enough rotating the plug anti- clockwise whilst pushing it in allowa you to feel when the threads line up - the plug will drop slightly as it drops off the thread ramp, you'll feel it too. Then at that point rotate clockwise & continue to push against the spring pressure & it should start to thread in within a few degrees of turning. If not then repeat. Cheers Andy

@AndyMechanic Got on the next try, I think the problem was to much oil on my hands and tools 🔧 thanks 😊 You don't have a video on changing the starter clutch bearing on a Grizzly do you?

I bought one it didn’t have the spring and there was a little metal not very much but looked to be a chunk of a seal in it. Any ideas and is it worth fixing myself and about how much to fix it?

hi andy, should the oil be checked dead cold or warmed up and sit for 10mins ?? thanks man !!
@AndyMechanic

If at operating temperature then run engine and allow a couple of mins to settle & oil should be at top of cross hatching on dipstick If engine cold then around 3mm below top of hatching. Okay

Hi Andy..I have a Yamaha YFM45FXV & in my maintainenes it does not recommend removing that back drain plug as you suggested ..that particular drain plug on my ATV is a drain plug for the differential gear box
@AndyMechanic
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, that's correct. The final drive (it's not a diff as no differential action) does also require it's oil to be changed on some of the services. Check your Service Schedule & reference the odometer & hour Meter to decide which service needs to be carried out. Hope this is of help. Cheers Andy

I bought a used kodiak 450, same engine...I drained the oil and when I took the filter off no oil came out at all, the filter was clean as if no oil ever hit the filter... any ideas? I took the side cover off and turned the engine by hand and could see that the oil pump is turning... could it ha e been a bad filter maybe?!
@AndyMechanic
7 жыл бұрын
+Rich C Golly...that's not good. Maybe the bypass valve is stuck open. I don't have the manual to hand but you best check to see if this is built into the filter or oil pump. Very important!
@cormierrichard
7 жыл бұрын
Andy Mechanic thank you, I'll look into the bypass valve. The local dealer had never heard about that issue before either....I'm hoping it's just a bad filter...do you know of a way to prime the pump and lines if possible?
@AndyMechanic
7 жыл бұрын
+Rich C You could disable the ignition coil and just crank over. I think there is an oil pressure check/bleed screw on the head. Make sure you get oil out of that orifice before you start engine.
@cormierrichard
7 жыл бұрын
Andy Mechanic I will try that. Thanks again

Good job but do not pull the dip stick until you get ready to fill with oil. Dirt clods, sand and God knows what else can fall down in the fill hole while working around the machine.
@AndyMechanic

+Thomas Maddux true.
@KingJamesVL

You would want to remove the dipstick to create proper drainage WHILE draining your oil. It creates something similar to a venturi effect if you will. So...no...not true. Remove while draining..replace so nothing falls in then remove while filling(obviously)...
@sskyle227

@AndyMechanic

Possibly, it's only a guide & really depends if any of the old oil is left in the engine - best to check & do final top up with dipstick. Cheers Andy

@@AndyMechanic thanks for replying Andy, i ended up putting 2.4L in and it wasnt even touching the dipstick. So i chucked a bit more in and its good. Love your vids mate !
