Well, I am not trying to bust anyone's bubble. But it isn't a classical. If you measure the bout, it is actually larger than a OO and almost OOO size with a 14.5"+ bout. Second, it is actually 1.70ish neck size like a steel string guitar should be. I took mine to a luthier. He went through it inside and out. He said, this guitar is made for steel strings inside and out. The construction is twice that of the average guitar, and you can see that on the outside by looking at the very thick neck profile. The same heavy construction is on the inside as well in the blocks, the steel shaft, and the heavier duty bracing. Yes, the neck permits you to have nylons, but it is built for steel strings.

I bought a G-100 from ebay and it is also beautify. The tuning post is also like yours but I changed it to a new tuning machine I got from Amazon. My observation is that it improved to sound. The Yamaha Dynamic is a step up to the ordinary Yamaha of the G series in the 1960's. My first Yamaha classical guitar was G-85D and a gift from my brother in law way back in 1971 and up to now I am still using it.

Hy there my friend in JAPAN !......i´ve got one of these No.S-50 wonderful and versatile guitars since back to the 90ies. I decided first to sell it maybe - then found your video here - now I´ll keep it and try nylon strings on it - I´ve had it strung up with steel 11s all the years and was allways surprised about the clear tone - I´ll keep it now and remember this nice film of yours Sir - thank you for that - and freindly Greets from Southern Bavaria / German Alps - Jay Virgilo .....

I have the S-50A. I put nylon strings on it. I bought it used for $75, and it had steel strings. I was advised by the guitar shop tech that the guitar doesn't have a truss rod and the bridge can come off with steel strings.

I got my vintage Yamaha Classical guitar that says No. 60 from Guitar Center. I just bought it because it is old and vintage but it turned out to be well taken cared for by the previous owner. One thing I did is that I changed the tuning mechanism for it because the old one is also metal and it creates a tinny sound. The classical tuning mechanism turned the sound more mellow as I expect for a classical guitar.

I have a red label dynamic model, I just found out it is a 1966 S50 guitar. I love it, sounds rich and warm and I only use classical strings. It's a bit beat up, she has had one or two bad relationships, but hey. Who hasn't?

I just got this exact guitar recently for about $80. Like you said, there aren't a lot of info about this guitar. Lots of sources say it's a mid to late 60's guitar. Doing my own research, I found out that Yamaha had changed logos over the years. The Yamaha logo on the No. S-50 is exactly the 1967 logo which coincides with it being mid to late 60's. In conclusion, this guitar must be from '67 to '69

I have a Dynamic nippon gakki S-70 with Johnny Cash and the Carter family signatures . I also have other famous Artist sign it. It was my Dads find at a flea mkt. in Chattanooga Tenn. in the 70's. I had it looked at by a trusted Guitar Shop and Charley said it was from the 60's. It play's and sounds beautiful. I got the Cash's around the late 80's to sign at an outdoor concert in Rome Ga. Yours sounds great!!

I have an old school NOGOYA SUZUKI , it also has a very loud and nice tone. The JAPANESE had a very HIGH EDGE putting their LAMANATE together. Some of the research site even say in the beginning the Top's on Yamaha's Dynamic Guitar was solid spruce. I tend to believe this may be true. The total weight of my Suzuki is 2.5 pounds and I'M FAIRLY SURE the body and neck is maple. Some folks will argue that point...they will just have to hold it and play it! Cheer's from Lafayette Ga. USA. I will post some photo's soon. P.S. I have 7 vintage FG JAPAN RED LABELS IN MY COLLECTION. I had rather play my FG I80 than my Martin D-28, and that's a fact jack!

S model is last generation of dynamic guitar. They are not all solid like the first dynamic model , they are laminated model. The reason of changing from all solid to laminated is the environment in USA made dynamic model's top wood easily crapped. In fact, from then on, Yamaha has been laminated guitars to conquer the entry level market.

I would advise not putting steel strings on older Yamahas without trussrods. Always use classical strings on this one. Even my 60's Yamaha classical guitar is starting to bow slightly and it is not adjustable.

I've got Steel 10 to 42 on my s - 50 and have never had any trouble with it and it's the best sounding acoustic I've ever owned, I also had a martin x series with a cut away and this was on par with that. Maybe I'll do a vid show casing it, I really am super impressed with the s - 50 after 30 years of playing it's just unreal

Hello, I got a Yamaha S-50A guitar. According to my research, it's a folk guitar with the style of classical guitar. But not knowing exactly if it's a folk or a classic, I do not know what to put on it. Do you have an idea and information about this guitar ? Which strings should I put on ? I have Elixir acoustic guitar strings 80/20 Bronze light 012-. 053 at home, do you think I can put them on my S-50A guitar ? Thank you

Creative Life Japan Yes, I have not dared to put metal ropes on it, I put addario EJ44 nylon rope and I am very happy. When I bought the guitar, the head had some hidden cracks, so that led me to the nylon strings. I still repaired the cracks, cleaned the mechanics and removed the dust that had accumulated in the guitar. She has lots of stripes, we see that she lived but wow when she sings we never tired of listening. They have a beautiful sound.

I've got the same guitar, it was my very first (got it in maybe '92). I can't find anything on it either...but it's obviously cheap and worthless since it's laminated wood all around. The neck on mine is like a baseball bat and since its always had acoustic strings on it, bowed like crazy. I might try to throw classical strings on it and see what happens. Anyway, thanks for the vid bro! Cheers
