Thanks for the help. Similar issue on an early 80’s Honda outboard and it turned out to be the fuel hose fitting. Then while checking the hose clamps the hose broke right off at the bulb. It’s probably good practice to replace the hose on older tanks anyway since they are so cheap.

This one was fairly new so thats why the repair. Complete replacement is probably a better fix. I have had the o ring in the end of the connector fail and the engine was sucking air not fuel. o ring is and easy fix.

good find, you need to replace the whole line, it will just keep collapsing.

I've had the inner liner collapse after replacing a primer bulb. The engine would idle fine but was fuel starved as soon as you gave it throttle. The inner liner becomes weakened when ethanol fuel (E10) has been used for a period of time. When inserting fittings on a fuel hose, new or old, use 2 cycle engine oil to lubricate the inside of the hose and the fitting. If gasoline happens to run over the lubed area, lube it again before attempting to insert the connector.

I have a 125hp mercury outboard which has worked perfectly until today, i noticed fuel dripping from the fuel line connector thst attached to the outboard and it idled for 15 seconds and then died. Now it wont start, im thinking it could have flooded but i have never had this problem before or it could be sucking in air. Any ideas what could be the problem, any help is appreciated

Same Idea take it apart, clean, lube, put it back together. Not always but usually will get you going again.

Ragarding the "damage inside" the fuel line. On my boat, I have snipped off the bad piece like you did. But I'm having trouble re-inserting the connector into the fuel line. When I try, the inner liner gets crimped/bunched up. Should I be using some sort of lubricant to get it to slide on? It's about 45 degrees outside. Maybe it's shrunk a bit?? My fuel line is grey like shown in your video. I don't remember having trouble like this in the past. Are thee grey lines an issue??

You might want to replace the line. The liner is like a plastic bag in the hose if it is not adhered to the the line and it were to collapse under the the vacuum draw of the fuel pump it may block the line.

Should replace all that gray fuel line boss-it has the tendency to degrade on the inside and throws junk in the fuel.

May I ask you a technical question? I need to replace the fuel lines on the same motor, only a 1987 model. I need a new fuel line engine connector and all the ones I see online state they are for 1998 or new Yamaha motors, so I have no idea what to buy. Any help?

My Yamaha 9.9hp 2stroke (1995) didn't start today because of the fuel line..went to the store to change it but the clamps did not fit.. bought a new fitting for the tank and just drove the hose directly to the fuel filter.. damn incompatible leaky fittings i hate u.

You'd be wise to get rid of that gray fuel line and go rubber instead.
