Have been using the R3 from 2015 Sept. And after 111000+ kms, can quite surely say, it's one of the best touring bikes that I could've got. Been to almost every terrain with this bike, and everywhere R3 performed flawlessly. Even today, the engine sounds like first day. The acceleration is like new one. The handling and ergonomics are just spot on. And the FE is still around 30-31 kmpl at a cruise speed of 100-110 kmph. Don't think any other bike can do things like R3 does, yes even after taking note of D390 and N300. Have a maintenence cost of approx 1.9 INR/km over the whole period the R3 is there with me, and that's including every spares and tires excluding only the fuel cost. It just doesn't fail. And the braking in my bike has been excellent, even without ABS, I never felt the need of ABS. So this bike has been a keeper for me for sure and I'm not gonna part with it. Excellent analysis though @Autocar India. The rear suspension jumps around a bit but if you try out the preset 5, it'll be much better. The default it comes is at preset 3.

What impressed me more is when the bike did Gramphoo - Batal - Kaza in 2018 with full load on and without any hiccup. That's when I was like fully impressed. I'm a 5'6" person and the riding triangle is perfect for me. So much that I used to cover 300+ kms without even stopping once or 1200 kms in a day, such a good tourer this bike is. @@arnabchowdhury9645 Thanks for the genuine user review! Am mighty impressed! What are the maintenance procedures you rigorously follow? How much times have you replaced the clutch and how do we know that when the clutch has to be replaced? Has the engine been ever opened? What about valve clearance? I know am sounding technical but just like you I prefer retaining and using stuff long-term. My 2018 R15V3 has crossed 40,000 KMs and am witnessing fuel efficiency drop over the last 7000 KMs. Needless to say that the engine note has become gruff and gearbox feels coarse. And, when loaded with another person in the rear, acceleration dips with just the engine booming as the revs rise. Your suggestions please.

@@gentlethrottle I maintain the R3 as religiously as possible. Like changing fork oil every year. Both wheel bearing, swingarm bush and cone-set lubrication after every monsoons. Chain maintenance every 1000 kms even though I use Scotoiler vSystem. Chain sprocket changed thrice in total - first time at 40K kms, second at 80K kms and 3rd at 110K kms. Cone-set changed twice - 1st at 80K kms and 2nd at 110K kms. Second one had to be changed quickly as bike use has reduced drastically after Mar 2020. My bike had covered 100K kms by Feb 2020. After that, till now it covered only 11K kms. Swingarm replaced at 110K kms as rusting happened. Brake pads, both changed twice till now. At 40K kms and at 90K kms. Clutch plates, total 7 in number, changed once at 67K kms as I was going to do Ladakh-Spiti in 2018. No engine work ever done except changing the cam chain tensioner once at 97K kms. Valve clearance gets checked every 20K kms. Has always been within the tolerance limit, both the intake and exhaust ones. And other general maintenance like engine oil, oil filter and air filter change every 4K kms. Plugs change every 10K kms. Using CR9E. Fuel injector cleaning done every 20K kms. It's a simple strategic move by Yamaha. - Reduce features during the introduction phase. Incash the bike as a whole. - Introduce it as a CBU with a higher price and blame CBU costs. - One year later, Make it in India. Now you already have higher price in place. Make profits with that price. - Then introduce missing features and make prospects happy. 2-3 years will pass like this.

A T3 would be a proper unicorn tier bike and the xsr would be more like the rebirth of the notorious rd350. Yamaha would sell like hot cakes considering its reliability, looks and nostalgia. Really informative review brother. Keep up the good work. People like you could express the opinion of the public to the brand. Yamaha already said they would produce T3 if there is enough demand. I have booked Duke 390 (2024). Now really concerned should i cancel the booking and go for MT03 / RTR 310 or Scrambler 400x? Too many negative videos of engine sizure on new duke 390 + vibration so strong on handle bar that mirrors are even not functional ( bolts unscrew itself due to solid vibration). Can you please suggest 🥺

Hi I am not sure about duke 390, but as of now don't go with Yamaha. From past 10 years i am using only Yamaha bikes.Currently i have fz250. i think yamaha lost their durability compared to previous versions. Now a days i am facing lots of repairs. Service centers also becoming worse. If you want to buy yamaha bikes, please wait atleast 1 year after they launch in indian market. Then only you will get to know the real problems in bike. sorry if i am wrong.

@@mastanvalluru3436 Agreed bro. Yamaha is going to lose the trust. I cancelled Duke390 and booked Himalayan 450. Way better and fita perfectly in the middle. With just 10-15K extra from tvs gets a better and bigger engine. Better comfort better ROI (price to power) then Duke.

I have the 2015 R3 which I love very much. But to be honest I do not like the looks of the new one. Honest opinion people, lookwise, how is it?

Did anybody else notice R3 turning it's head ever so slightly when Rishad was introducing it for the first time!😅

I’d rather buy the outdated ninja 300 than an outdated r3

MT03 buyers can go for CB300R, the great 'pocket rocket 🚀'

Having ridden both, I can confidently say: I hated the Honda CB300. Yamaha R3 is so much better.

The design of the r3 looks blunt cos the previous gen r3 was sharp and amazing. Even r15 v3 has shaper looking face than this.

Bikewale claimed that these twins have a slip and assist clutch... Autocar says otherwise Who's correct?
@RishaadMody1

Yamaha simply states that it has a ‘light clutch action’. From what I could tell the rear wheel hops under multiple downshifts and it does not feel like there’s a slip function in place
@varun1036

@@RishaadMody1noted, thank u. So no slipper clutch🥲 Incidentally Varun Painter echoed ur opinion too, while Overdrive went with Bikewale 😅 Here's me hoping that this R3 is a 4.4 lakh on road bike🤞

I like that you say "fork" which is correct and not "forks". A motorcycle only has one front fork.

I love the looks n ive been waiting for the bikes for more than a year now since the time i heard the roumers of the return. However the bikes are outdated no slipper clutch no traction control no tft display. Guys comeon even the r15 has all these things. Highly disappointed.

Good thing about this bike : simple & reliable. Not so good thing : high price, no tech and CBU unit for the first year. KTM RC 390 still feels more value for money than the Kawasaki 400 and Yamaha R3. But Aprilia RS 457 if comes under 5 lakh (on road) then it will beat all of these bikes in the market.
