a review from an owner/rider who deals with changes & maitenance & who decides what goes & what stays on a bike over a long period holds so much more credability with me than somebody who has picked up a bike from a dealer for a day or 2 and trys to say they know everything about it,i have never had an opinion of a bike i have owned for 2 days and it be the same after 12mnths.Your no bullshit attitude & the effort you put into your vlogs is well worth your efforts josh......oh & thanks for not bolting on 500kg of luggage & crap to it either mate,if people need that much crap when they go riding then take the fuckn car eh lol

I really think YamaHaHa hit the nail on the head with the T7 considering it’s price point. No stupid electronic crutches except for what’s mandated. Linear power delivery which is perfect for the dirt. Making it lighter would only add to its cost. It’s a perfect example of taking the good with the bad. You live in an enduro dream world to me. I’ve never seen such glorious flowy single track in person such as yours. All of ours is tight and filled with canned ham rocks. T7 wouldn’t be a lot of fun. Hard enough on the DR sometimes. Eventually I’ll get a proper enduro machine. For now.. I’m just happy to have a bike to ride anywhere and everywhere. Nice review. Glad you’ve been enjoying it so much

Cheers Matt yeah it's definitely a great bike for the money, and yeah the gains in weight saving vs increased cost wouldn't be worth it. There's only so much you can do with a big twin. If ya really want lighter get a 690 👍 Or a DR if you want reliability along with lighter weight 😬

Out of all the choices of bikes, the newly announced 2022/3 World Raid is one I would throw money down on. I happen to like KYB suspension and they somewhat fixed the suspension on the World Raid with slightly better dampening and a little bit more travel. Funny with Yamaha, everyone wanted the WR gearbox, but now WR is World Raid. It has a duel fuel tank totalling 23L, 20mm higher seat profile, fibreglass composite radiator fenders, better colour TFT screen with mobile connectivity. It's not without needing mods though. Yes they are a very good looking bike and I would go the black with grey accents too. Love those mirrors for trail and road.

Thanks for a great review Josh. Without any hesitation I would say it's the best review of the T7 I have watched. Probably because you're an Aussie and you don't do BS. You're right about that budget exhaust sounding awesome. Love it. Even just as good as Mad Micks AT. Taking us for the ride on the single track shows just how capable the T7 is with very little in the way of mods. I'm very close to finally making a decision between the T7 and the AT for my last new bike. I think the capability and simplicity of the Yamaha have me leaning towards it. Even more so now after watching this review. Cheers! PS. 12000k's is a good year!
@MVDBR
3 жыл бұрын
That's high praise mate thank you 🙌 Can I ask what would lean you towards the AT? If anything for me personally that little bit of extra grunt would be awesome, but then there's the extra weight that comes with it 🤷♂️
@markhills3922
3 жыл бұрын
@@MVDBR No worries Josh. There's always room for giving a man credit for a job well done. What leads me to consider the AT?????mmmm. I've always been a Honda man since my first XR75 and my last XR600. Watchin Mick on his AT is good praise for the Honda as well! It can take a good beating..... And I think it looks the business! Then there's cost. Early model base AT's with very low K's and maybe a few bolt ons are good value in my eyes. After I take my love for Honda's out of it I need to consider what I really want from an ADV. The only bike that ever seriously hurt me was a Yamaha Piece of crap '03 WR450. That experience has put me off Yamaha. They should of been recalled due to the crappy fork design that trapped metal filings (YES, metal filings) in the shim stack causing them to be "open" with no compression dampening. It makes me wonder if the T7 fork is the same design?! Have you drained your fork oil yet? 12000k's and with the riding you do ( Your forks work for a living ) it would be a good idea to change it for fresh oil anyway. The extra neddies of the AT would be great for long distance and the grin factor but like you, the extra weight is a consideration when things get a bit tricky. The AT is also a more complex machine than the T7 which makes me consider the T7 as complicated computers on anything with wheels really does put me off. Do we need all the gizmos that seem to come with fuel injected bikes these days? I just want injection that is fueled right from the showroom floor. Maybe an on the fly SWITCH (not a button on a screen) to tame the ignition curve when the going gets very slippery or for gnarly rocky uphills..... Other than that, I'm still fuckin undecided????????
@MVDBR
3 жыл бұрын
@@markhills3922 yeah all fair points on the Honda mate. No I haven't done anything with the forks on the T7 yet but you're right an oil change would be good preventive maintenance to get done soon. I had a 2011 WR450F for a while and did service the forks one time and don't recall any metal in there. That bike did have other issues though, most concerning was the valves pulling through the head, the intakes needed re-shimming at every check. Not sure if the airbox wasn't sealing well and letting dust in or what but couldn't see anything. Sold the fucker before it started costing me money anyway 😬 I agree on the electronics, we did fine without all that shit before. Fuel injection is the best though yeah. Good luck with the decision mate!
@markhills3922
3 жыл бұрын
@@MVDBR Yeah those WR's were piles of crap even though the magazines had us conned otherwise! I saw lots of them with dropped valves. Yuck, what a fuckin mess. Throw it away and buy another bike type "yuck"..... Do your fork oil change before you get hurt and or they cost you money. They are only 43mm forks so they will flex a lot with the riding you do. Flex means wear on bushings at best which will contaminate the oil. It's cheap and easy maintenance for a bit of piece of mind. I note you have mentioned you bottom out the forks a bit..... Maybe a heavier weight oil and a bit less air gap (more oil) might help you there without having to spend more than 50 bucks! I note you have admitted to being a tight arse as well :)
@MVDBR
3 жыл бұрын
Tight as they come my good man. Yeah will definitely get it done and add heavier oil & a bit more of it. Might be worth hitting up some suspension mobs as well, never know someone might be keen to do some free work if they're confident enough I'll be happy with it and not say it's crap 😬 cheers

"2nd gear single-track shredding" ... thats where my T7 feels most awesome !! I'm same milage as you and love the bike more all the time. Few little niggles, like corroded spokes (had heavy duty stainless fitted), bit of corrosion under tank but only a small amount, and today it's back to Yamaha for a faulty gear position sensor, it no longer displays 6th. Other than that it's one awesome beast thats super easy to live with.

Great review Josh, I 100% agree with you. Ive had my T7 just going on a year as well, Reg. / Insure etc. all due in a few weeks. 7,000ks on mine. I actually fitted a centerstand, (Yes it can drag when you drop into a rut), I had a trail stand and it was really sketchy using it for the front. Got a rear flat 80km from the nearest town a few weeks ago and was glad I had the centerstand, I was loaded up for camping as well. Is the suspension hard core no, have I upgraded it no. I'm 61 yrs old and about 72kg, so I think we're closer to the designed rider weight Yamaha intended. I think this is the unicorn, if you want:- 74 HP, Awesome road handling, Smooth engine, Awesome dirt ability (not for beginners on single track.), Low maintenance, Reliability, Versatility. I have a dirt background, but this bike will make you fall in love with all aspects of motorcycling. Ive ridden this bike everywhere I took my WR250R, and in 90% of the riding this thing is better! @@white-rider when the T7 does get airborne the landings are usually not pretty 😬 Have you done anything to your suspension? @@MVDBR not yet, I have my T7 for less than a month, and I'm yet to bottom her out. I'm pretty light, so I'll se how it goes and try the adjustments first. I've seen your suspension video, and that approach definitely adds bottom-out resistance, but also changes suspension feel through the whole spectrum, making it generally stiffer, not absorbing small bumps as good as before. Fantastic Review mate , down to earth 🌍, not bull crap 💩 honest and detailed. Totally 💯 agree about the Centre stand thing ( on all my 3 bikes - including one road NO Centre stand . The rear bearing was also an issue with the older XT 660 and Tenere 660 . Could explain the fix for that and the rear Cush drive mod ( maybe 🤔 a Yamaha thing ) . I just modded my rear Cush drive on the 660 . When I can get back on the bike again after the brain 🧠 injury can also in my opinion what the best rear tyre is the Rallz or the 723 that I’m currently running ( 7 June cannot come quick enough) PM me maybe 🤔 I can assist with the rear bearing thing .

Best real world review on the T7 to date. Thank you for your no bull shit opinion on the bike. I have a ktm 500 excf, I'm debating on converting it to light adv bike with a rally kit or selling it and looking for a T7. Any thoughts on that scenario?
@MVDBR
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! Hmm, the 500 is obviously a fuckin weapon in the hard stuff, but you pay the price through lack of comfort and high maintenance. There are things you can do to make it more comfortable but I don't think there's any getting around that hectic maintenance schedule. Personally I'm happy to forgo the super hard trails in favour of a bit of luxury and being able to do a decent trip without having to worry about oil changes. But in the end it all comes down to your personal needs and intended use for the bike 🙌

Nice review, I've done pretty much all the same things to my T7, I did do my suspension with KTech, I can't recommend enough to upgrade your suspension, I can't stop smiling and yahooing when I ride now the difference is extreme, it is the perfect Adventure Bike. Not sure it matters which brand upgrade dollar for dollar they seem about as good as each other.

Love everything about the T7, and really would love to pull the trigger on one. My only issue is the weight. 5'8''/160 (172cm/72kg), I currently ride a WR250R and just love the bike. Only reason I am looking to get the T7 is longer freeway sections. I live in the states and you can't really avoid longer freeway at times. Your a better rider than I am but I know you went from the smaller KTM/lighter bike, so I thought you might be able to offer some thoughts. Everyone shows how to pick up a T7, but its always on flat ground, nice grassy field, not tired from riding. Who cares......I want to know how it is when you dump it on a steep rocky hill, dead tired from riding all day, etc etc. I thought hard about a KTM 390 like your wifes but I really prefer the quality/reliability of Yamaha over KTM. Anyway love the channel and appreciate all the effort you guys put in. Thanks for any feedback. Cheers

A VERY good brake fluid to improve brake feel and performance is Castrol reactive Dot 4 . Mate change to that before looking at braided lines , brake pads etc. it’s only slightly more expensive than normal brake fluid. Iv used it on all my last 6 bike off road enduro, ADV and road ITS GOLD . Maybe 🤔 you could also mount some long steg pegs to go out a little wider than the pipe mount ? this may protect it in an off ( and other parts of the bike )
@MVDBR

Thanks for the brake fluid tip mate 🤙 As for the exhaust, I think I'll just deal with it when/if it gets munted. Just remove the stock mount and get a custom midpipe made up for a high exhaust mount 👌

I like the theme. I think it's better to close the mirrors in tight spaces. In my country, forests are forbidden places for motorcyclists. Europe, hugry Hungary. There has been a reprivatization here recently and these new forest owners believe they should perceive every area as an enclosed garden. Their forests are feared like a spider in a web. If you motor, they will drool over you. Yet the dirt road is also a road, and it is not harmful for a vehicle to travel peacefully. The crossmen, on the other hand, are already destroying, they need to be pushed back to the tracks. I wish you much pleasure in the future as well.

@@MVDBR nah, not yet. Considered it for a bit but just dialed up the compression damping some, dialed back the aggression & learned to play in the limits. Being a flyweight makes it easier to get away with stock setup. Can be a pricey upgrade some heavier riders may find unavoidable. Shame there’s no preload adjustments up front cause the static sag is way too much & rider sag is borderline even under my skinny arse. Adding that may be the first move if I do anything.

@@lessmore444 yeah agree 100% mate seems like half the fork travel sags out under it's own weight especially once some protective gear is added to the bike up front. Reckon some pre-load adjustment would be a big help.

hey question ? how do find the power of the engine compared with the ktm 500 ? power to ground . cheers Steve/Geraldton
@MVDBR
3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to compare Steve, mostly because of the weight difference. It takes a lot more grunt and traction to get that 200kg mobile, compared to 110kg. Two totally different beasts, but the 500 definitely FEELS more powerful because it just takes off and lofts the front wheel whereas usually the T7 just spins up the rear 😎👌 On the bitumen it takes off pretty well though

I still haven't bent the main hanger, not for lack of dropping the bike either 😁 Not too worried about it at this point even though it's always a possibility given the right combination of events. The end bit (flat plate) of the mount where the can bolts on is bent inwards a bit but I just leave it like that. So far still haven't had the swingarm start rubbing on the exhaust 👍
