Check out the CycleWorld's magazine article on this bike that was done a couple months ago, they made a an adventure bike out of it, even upgraded to a bigger tank.

I'm at 1,000 miles on my '15 WR250R and am absolutely in love. The more I ride, the more mods I do, the better it gets. Not sure what tires you're running CC but look at the MotoZ Mountain Hybrid rear tires. Mine isn't even broken in yet and it's far superior to the stock tires. Better on road grip, cornering grip, wet pavement grip, you name it. Oh and the front end wants to lift up when it wasn't even close before.

Great review Cruza! Love my WR250R (2015)! Wait until you hit over 1000 miles, it really gets loosened up & hauls ass for a 250. One thing you can do is get an aftermarket exhaust & lighten the bike up by about 12 lbs of so. Then you can add some better protection for radiator, bark busters & skid plates along with a rear rack & still be lighter than stock. That is what I did. You will appreciate the bark busters & folding mirrors & radiator guard the first time you drop it off road & believe me you will drop it. I am 6" 170lbs. I stiffened up the rear to the max settings & went up one weight on the front fork oil along with maxing out the settings. It's perfect for my riding style & off road/on road mix. I also put D606's on it. They wear a bit faster on the street than other more road biased tires, but they are so much better off road it is well worth it.
@CycleCruza
8 жыл бұрын
+Evil Droid Nice! So I guess I should just max out the front fork and rear spring? I'll have the yami mechanic do that when I take it in for it's 500 mile service. Normally, I do the work myself but don't have the time.
@Ts_Evildroid
8 жыл бұрын
CycleCruza I would max them out & give it a try since you weigh a bit more than me. I like the stiffer suspension settings on both my bikes. Really helps the front end dive under breaking too.

fully agree to all you've said in the video. I L-O-V-E my WRR. When you come from bigger bikes the WRR first feels a bit lame, but actually it's not at all. When riding in the city you're even quicker bcs. you can go through gaps almost no other rider is able to follow you :-> The WRR feels like a mountainbike, no weight and still lots of power. The only thing important is that you're tall enough. There are ways to lower the bike but at the cost of less suspension performance and that's where the WRR is really really good at. If you don't mind the lower Vmax, get a 48 teeth rear sprocket. The performance then gets insane and it's sooo much fun riding!

There only two choices of dual sports. fast lightweight dual sports with high maintenance (KTM 500 exc, Husqvarna 501, Beta 500rs, wr450f converted, etc) and slower heavier dual sports with less maintenance (wr250r, crf250l, drz400, etc). There are no perfect dual sport for everybody. However, I hate wrenching on a bike so I prefer the lower maintenance dual sport, reason why I got a wr250r.

Do thay make a WR450R, I have a YZ450 and love it and think the 450 would be better for the road. Great video.

+Kevin brown From a little research, it appears they do not. None of the Japanese 4 (Honda, Kawi, Zuki, Yami) make a street legal 450 cc dual sport. I would love to see one on sale like a WR450R/X or a CRF450L/M. Would be nice having the extra power over the 250.

+cyclecruza Do you at all regret not spending the 4-5K and getting the incredible KTM 690 Enduro? I don't know whether to get the DRZ400/WR250R or spend the extra cash and get the KTM. Not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze.

+Jared Co You mean more like $6,000+ more. lol That's nearly double the price. I only paid $6500 for the wr250r. No I don't regret it. As this bike is breaking in it's getting faster and I'm able to pull the front wheel up easy. I'm also going to be adding a FMF slip-on exhaust + mega bomb header + PC + Servo emulator + 3.1 gallon tank. These bikes come pretty corked from the factory. I love this wr250r. The DRZ has a carb, get the WR250r and mod it. You'll love it.

Great to hear you are enjoying the WR. Right now I can get a new left over 15' DRZ400 for less than 6K. Hard to justify spending 12K on a dirt bike.The DRZ seems like a great value. Thanks for the info!!

Jared Co Ot's a great bike but I personally don't like a carb, FI is much better. I'm sure you'll love it tho.

+Austin Toller Yeah I watched every single youtube video and blog review on wr450f conversion. I did a video on the cons here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yIWA1n2gnKNeZ6g

+CycleCruza makes sense now. I've been contemplating on going supermoto or just a standard sport bike like the fz-07. After watching a few of your videos I'm leaning towards dual sport. Want best of both worlds. I used to have a 2003 gsxr 600 and crashed it once I upgraded it. It was a great bike and I love it but once I got a pit bike the I've fallen in love with going anywhere I want. Speed is nice but has only gotten me in trouble. Would like a sport bike for track use.

Austin Toller Get the dual sport, insurance is so cheap and when you go off-road you'll have a lot of fun. I even love riding this bike on the twisties. You can always get a fz-07 as a second bike down the line. FZ-07 is a sick bike too but having only that bike you are missing out on having the best of both worlds of dirt and street together anytime you want.

+CycleCruza that's kinda what I'm leaning towards. I'm not doing a lot of traveling other than around the suburbs to and from work with some room to play in the country. This really helped me solidify my next bike. I do miss the speed but like you've said you don't get to use all that power with out risking some trouble or injury. Can't wait to see the mods and keep it up man thanks!

Put some real mileage on that bike both on and off road then do a review.
