Test run of a Yamaha XJR1300. I have owned a Suzuki GSX1400 for 10 years in the past and thought I'd try it's close rival the Yamaha XJR1300. Initial impressions sitting on the bike is that it feels lighter than the 1400, probably as comfortable as it has the same large seat. With the motor running, it was very quiet although I could feel a slight vibration at tick over, (something not present on the 1400), although once on the move the motor was as smooth as silk. The motor is torquey low down but not as much so as the 1400, but continues to produce power all the way up the rev range unlike the 1400 which seems to run out of puff over 7,000rpm. The XJR feels as quick as a 1400 but in a different way, probably because of the 100cc less, it also lacks the 6th gear of the 1400 but this didn't detract as I wasn't looking for ab extra gear. The motor pulled strongly from 30mph in top gear and the R1 brakes were superb. On the road the XJR felt more 'chuckable' than the 1400 and tracked well through corners, nice bike although I would prefer it in yellow and this particular example although low mileage at 10,200 miles on an X plate was a bit expensive at £2,995 and did have some corrosion on the cam covers and one of the engine covers, otherwise good nick.
