What a lovely idea and what excellent execution. I can think of almost no bike less suited to a café set-up, yet this is looking like a lovely job. The XS 1100 was a thorough, thorough beastie. Like a quick Holden but shy a couple of wheels. It sounds so, so good. Like I remember, but better. Hats off for thinking of it and hats off for doing it.

Hi Andy, I was wondering how you got the key ignition in the top triple tree that way. I haven’t seen it in any of the videos but am trying to hide the key cylinder like that. Is that an after market one or did you make changes to the original cylinder to get it to fit there? Additionally where did you buy the little ignition switch that you used last before switching to Moro gadget

very nice ride you got there-Q? maybe you or your buddy can tell me why my Mikuni vm34s are so hard to start-fresh build-new vm's (tc bros) short open pipes--pilot jet #25-main jet 180- clip in center on needle- 1 turn out on mix screw- plugs are black....motor is a 79 xs650 w/ upgrade cdi from HHB-kick start only via capacitor

I'm trying to decide if I should keep futzing around with the Keihin CVK36 ZRX 1200 carbs I put on my 1981 XS11, or should I just cough up the money for the Mikuni flat slides. I really like the idea of pumper carbs, and the Keihins aren't getting any easier to get parts for, as they get older.

Thanks for the reply. How are they in low speed traffic, etc? Also, how much pain in the arse to get them dialed in for an XS11, and what jets did you use? Thanks again, Andy. Love the channel.
@ANDY5
6 жыл бұрын
They are perfectly fine right through the throttle range and manage low speed traffic no problem. As for the dial in I just unboxed them, reconfigured for the correct centre to centre spacing, fitted them to the bike and set up the accelerator pump and vacuum advance. Virtually plug and play. Can’t remember the jet sizes, it’s in this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/lpuL1JaMeqJpm34

@@ANDY5 what is the vacuum advance? there's nothing said about it in Mikunis manual
@ANDY5

The XS11 has a vacuum advance as well as conventional mechanical advance on earlier models and vacuum/electronic advance from 1980. It’s a Yamaha thing, not a Mikuni thing.

Hi! I came here looking for information about the Mikuni RS carbs. I have a KZ1000 MKII that I use a lot for conmuting, do you think that this carbs area good for conmuting? BTW great build on that XS1100!!!

G’day Luis, I think you will be happy with the choice. I rode this bike over 1000 klms with a friend on a standard XS11 and my fuel economy was noticeably better. They are more responsive across the board but deliver good power when required thanks to the accelerator pump arrangement. I have no quarms recommending them to anyone.

Sounds really good reminds me of my XS1100G back in the day. I bought it new and put of 45000 miles on her computing in So Calif everyday. Loved that bike, the engine never sounded like it was working hard. Did you get the Tach sorted looks lie it was very inaccurate on this ride. Also why do you have the fork tubes 2 + inches up through the top triple clamp? Does it affect the handling? Would you share how much you invested in the project, I promise I won't tell your wife, LOL.

Andy where did you get your triple tree or did you fabricatedyourself? looks so classic and natural too the bike I love that setup I might do the same thing on mine if I ever get one myself.

G'day mate, thanks for tuning in. The top triple tree clamp is the factory XS11 unit with the handlebar mounts cut off. I then sanded and polished it. The steering head bolt is designed to look like an old fashion steering dampener, but it purely aesthetic, I can't remember where I bought it from. Andy

Greetings from Denmark, loving your build. I'm sure I've missed it, but I can't seem to find the info myself. What exhaust system are you running, and did you talk about your choice in any of your videos?? I'm running a farely rusty exhaust on mine, looking to replace it I haven't been able to find something that fits my idea of a good exhaust let alone something reasonably priced. Regards Christian.

+Christian Mulvad G'day Christian, I don't think I did mention it. The 4 into 1 I purchased 2nd hand from a local internet auction site. The muffler I purchased over the phone from a company on the Australian mainland. My brief was for a stainless steel short reverse megaphone, with removable baffle, and 50mm inlet, they had this on the shelf. Brand is M4.
