I own a 1977 XS750-2D. I bought it brand new when I was 18 yrs old. It has 33200 miles on and still runs perfectly. I ride it once a week to keep everything working.

That sounds about right. I had one, early eighties, identical to this one. Went around Europe and North Africa, and it NEVER let me down, and never missed a beat. Dodgy second gear, but I just used to keep my toe on the pedal and it was fine. There's a very simple fix i understand. Wished I'd known then! Thanks for posting.

Sweet bike! I test rode a brand new red with gold one back in 1978. I love that sound. Maybe that's why I've bought three 1979 Honda 6-cylinder CBX's Built one to 1200cc. Have 6 into 6 pipes & a 6 into 1 pipe. The very best sound out of a motorcycle! Carry on, Shiny side up.

Brings back memories as I purchased one new in North Carolina for about $1650 US at end of season clearance and then put aftermarket exhaust on and when people heard it coming they said it sounded just like VW Beetle with straight pipes(great unusual MC sound)

Lovely sounding bike. This one sounds really sweet. Some of them rattle real badly

Yeah mine rattles a bit. Mines the '78. Looks just like this one. Red instead of blue. Mine's in great condition but doesn't quite run as well as that one.

Man that bike is even cleaner than mine and mine is the same year same color in superb condition. That rattleing someone mentioned on some of these bikes is the insert inside of the exhaust pipe, unless it is different then it may be engine related. These old relics go for over $4000. in this good of condition and I would not even sell mine for that, yours is probably worth 5 to 6 thousand to a real collector regardless of what the stupid blue book says.

It was my first bike too. I bought a 1978 and later bored it out to a 900cc with a cylinder kit that I bought. That bitch would stand up on her rear wheel in first gear with just the twist of the throttle. Not impressive by today's standards, but I had the only street bike back then that could do it. I had a shit hot Camaro that wanted to race and I just put her up on her rear wheel and followed him down the road and he knew he couldn't compete. I loved that bike.

In 1976 this bike new cost $1976.00 and a free leather jacket to boot ... 3 years and I traded her for a new BMW R 80 (the R 80 was 450 LBS to the Yamaha's 601 pounds )

My 1st street bike was a four year old '77 xs750 with all the factory touring accessories. What a great motorcycle. Fond memories of the places that bike took me and the friends i rode with. Quite a bike for a 19 year old.

The original systems were well know for rotting, I had the 'E' model in red from new, and fitted one of the first Motad 3 into 1 systems (which is what I think this bike has) and it not only improved it immeasurably, it also made it a lot easier to get the rear wheel out.

9.17.16. The shaft drive system was designed by Porsche/Getrag, I've read......The engine was by Yamaha. Sweet sounding engines. Not quite as smooth as a BMW K75, though. 👀

When I reached the age of about 30 I bought a cheap RD250 and fitted 350 barrels to it, because that is what I had done in my youth. At the lights a two up XS750 pulls up. He looks at my "250" with distain and then launches off from the lights. It was a total mismatch, but once I hit heavy traffic I decided to slow down. He then overtook in the most dangerous manner to get back in front. My RD was rubbish off the line anyway, because the bike had all its weight over the back wheel, and could not pull away under full throttle without the front wheel raising up in the air. It is a shame that a lightweight low powered bike can not use all iit's power at low speed, because once you are moving weight means nothing.
