One thing I've always liked about ME rider tests is that they give us some background of the rider so we know what their existing baseline is.

Marcus Liriano I’m 5’5” with a 30” inseam. I haven’t ridden one yet, but I’ve sat on one and while a tad tall, it feels reasonable light and easy to handle. Upright I was between my toes and the balls of my feet, but if I leaned just a little I’d be squarely planted on the ball of one foot while the other foot still touched the ground a little. While I’m not a fan of tall bikes, this did feel very manageable. I imagine riding it would be even better.

Mature guys ;) the motorcycles I have test driven before i bought this do change gears differently. How it feels. You know ;) you bastards. However; I warn you, i bought mine. THe second gear is twitchy, i cant roll on the gas without getting a jerk like being pulled. And switching from first to second and second to first is hard. Ive only ridden it for about 200 miles (400km), but I do not trust the bike if I switch from first to second in a roundabout that im not suddenly in neutral. Il tell my dealer when i go into the ”first” service. And also, WTF is the lambda sonde (exhaust sensor) doing being completely exposed? :p Anyway, great review! Im sure I made a good decision...... :D

Ducati 797 or XSR700? I passed my test on the MT07 (FZ)and demo’ed the 797, though not the XSR700. Looking to get my first big bike after nearly 3000 miles on my 125. Love the character and soul of the air cooled Ducati, and seen a black one ex-demo with low mileage.
@boldstar69

Between the two I'd actually choose the XSR700 but that'd be just preference. I am not sure about the styling of the ducati 797. I've seen both bikes in person though, and the ducati seems to offer a more "premium" looking option. Either way, both will be very good bikes. I personally prefer "classic" looking bikes and would probably go for an older 1st gen monster if I were to go with a ducati. Be warned about the maintenance costs of the ducati though, they will be slightly more expensive compared to japanese bikes, valve adjustment is around $1200 for the 14k mile or 2 year service UNLESS you can wrench it yourself and only spend about $15 on a valve shim. it's pretty expensive due to the pretty complicated "desmodromic" valve train system. otherwise reliability will be on par with the yamaha as the 2 valve ducatis are pretty much the most reliable duc engines out there. good luck!

J0n p3r3s Thanks for the detailed reply Jon, that’s good info when considering a purchase of a Ducati 797. As a comparison I had a go on the 2018 MT07 with the revised stiffer suspension yesterday. The MT07 engine feels like it has more punch than the 797, I went easy on the tyres as the bike had only 20 miles on the clock! Lots to think about before I make a purchase! 😊

Richard Collins My friend has a scrambler 800 (same air cooled engine as the 797) and he is always complaining about the heat it produces in traffic, as opposed to my mt07 which is liquid cooled. Also (slightly biased here i admit) the mt sounds better (both with open exhausts of course), whereas the v twin just becomes louder at higher revs, the mt sounds like a v twin at low revs and transitions to a mini r1 crossplane sound at high revs. It is also a lot easier to ride, but i will say the suspesions and brakes on the ducati are better.

Chicken Soup for the Loser it was hard decision, i demoed the 2018 MT07 at the beginning of the week and it’s a great bike. I also feel you get a lot of bike for your money with the MT07. Still, I managed to get a red 797, I liked the slightly forward riding position, also I felt the 797 has its power more evenly spread. I’ll get the Termignoni pipe and remap at a later stage for it. Pick it up on the 30th June. 😊

new rider, should i get the 700 or 900 for long term?
@Jay_Michael
5 жыл бұрын
The 900 is hard to handle even for an experienced rider. It wants to lift the front tire off the ground at all times. The 700 has plenty of power and torque, especially if you add an exhaust and a power commander. I love the 700.

I would say 700 for now till they release the 300. Cuz, you just need the power of a 300 to do in city rides, take it occasionally on the freeway too. Even 700 or 900 is not freeway rideable, the wind blast is something you will hate. XSR 300 is on the radar and expect one soon
