Thank you for this, even though it is old, still quite relative. I first purchased the CP-88 as I wanted the good, full, key bed, then purchased the YC-61, but haven't really got into all the Mechanics. Was considering an getting rid of the CP for a YC-88 after reading some of the stuff about it, then I came across your video, and it just saved me a BIG unnecessaries purchase!!!

Hi, I have a question. If I have MainStage / logic set up and connected via usb so I can use yc61 to play sounds from it, and these sounds come out of the yc61 output jacks. Can I input a guitar into MacBook, through MainStage / logic, and get this to come out of the yc61 outputs? What I want to do, is be able to play yc61 sounds, MainStage/logic sounds, and guitar (effects etc through MainStage/logic) and have it all come out of the yc 61 outputs. Any help appreciated.

I don't have a guitar to test this idea out with but, Im thinking, It would depend on 'how' you connect the guitar. If you plug the guitar into the PC via a audio interface ( even small like the IK Multimedia adaptor) the PC might make you choose between the adaptor interface and the YC Interface.

When I saw this particular video my thoughts that because of the similar setup, CP series & YC series, let me say TY very much for your insight. I love my new CP73 with this added feature

Thanks for this! I have a CK61 (and am thinking about upgrading to YC88). My CK61 can connect to the iPad in a similar way AND the A/D input also gets routed into the iPad (so that I can use iPad apps for effects for external gear). I saw in a different vid that as of three years ago, the YC88 is not capable of doing this. Have there been any updates for the YC series that enables A/D input audio to be routed through USB? Or is this one of the set advantages of the CK series compared to the YC?
@Featherlightstudio
3 ай бұрын
The A/D input is really a Mix convenience for external audio to be summed with the YC at the Main outs (Keyboards/Mixers, ect). It Would be super cool if they change that in a firmware update to route to internal FX.

The Seqtrak is an IOS device and the YC is an IOS device. Can they be directly connected together or is this unfortunately only for an I-pad, I-phone or computer? I want to play the Seqtrak through the YC without all the mess of MIDI cables and audio cables etc. One connection cable would be great but probably would work. The document says they are compatible whatever that means. It does not actually tell you which port to use on YC whether "hoist" or "to device".

I think the issue with the compressed sense and volume might be related to the default setting on every voice related to velocity. Might have been added in the OS update but it's default setting is only 64 out of 127. This forces the YC to play quiet and dull and doesn't activate all of the sample layers either. Go into "Settings" of each part and then select "Touch Sensitivity" and change the 64 to 127 and leave the offset at 64 or maybe 75. This is not the button on the panel that says "Touch" but you can set that to "Hard" so it's slightly more pressure to activate the full voice. This should create a more forceful and more present sound. After fixing every single YC voice I think the default setting of 64 is a bug or error. It absolutely kills the entire life of the board. Yamaha should fix this because it's pretty stupid. It's like a brand new board now that actually works.

My question is similar to the app mixing question before. The usb connection seems to disable the ability to change the volume on the iPad itself, since it is now through the Master Volume control. Is there a way around that for mixing the app sound with YC sound?

You could 'filter' out that MIDI CC# volume command ( #7) generated by the Keyboard or simply change the volume of the IOS module your controlling ( KORG Module in this case )

Cool video - about to pull the trigger on this YC61. Currently using only an Arturia MIDI Controller with a multitude of VST instruments. The keyboard of the Arturia is far too plasticky but the integration with their software is tight. Hoping I can do a Local Off so no sounds are emitted on the YC61 and have it act as MIDI controller only but from the VST standpoint, use the MIDI learn features of the VST software to integrate with some of the buttons on this YC61. Great video thank you. Any Windows tips would be great if available.

@Featherlightstudio

The YC doesn't have a way to record or playback samples internally so the audio inputs are just for mixing external audio from other line level sources like keyboards, mixers, Akai MPC, ect. However, you can interface with iOS devices and apps that can like Cubasis, Sampletank, ect. More info on this here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/snef3altoZyTrKQ

Hi Steve, thanks for this helpful video! I have my expression and sustain pedals plugged into my MODX, which is connected to my YC via MIDI. Doing so, I have ONE expression pedal and ONE sustain pedal that control both instruments (responding to Receive SW On/Off on YC). I would like the same two pedals to also control expression and sustain on sound modules on the iPad that is connected to the YC. Can the YC transmit pedal inputs that it receives from the MODX onto the iPad (acting as MIDI through)? If so, how can I achieve this? If not, can I control the MODX, the YC and the iPad with a single expression/sustain pedal when using additional equipment (e.g. a MIDI controller and/or USB adapter)? If so, how? Many thanks for your help!

@Featherlightstudio
Жыл бұрын
So, I finally had a chance to test it with MainStage. If you choose the built-in Audio Interface of the YC, the audio from MainStage on a MacBook will come out the master outputs and headphone out of the YC only and the volume knob controls both the MainStage output and the YC sounds. But to clarify, the YC is not controlling MainStage via MIDI CC, its just mixing the MainStage output WITH the YC. But this might be all you need for live stage setups as you can store voice settings in both environments.

The built in audio engines of the YC and the external USB APP control have different data streams. The ability to have true filter module input/control over external sounds like high end synthesizers would probably have put the YC in a substantial higher price point.

@@Featherlightstudio Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate your assistance with this matter. In the past 72 hours, I’ve taken the following steps to try to resolve the transposing issue: 1. MIDI Control Settings: Yes, I have ensured that the MIDI Control is turned on under the MENU button in the MIDI Settings on my Yamaha YC. I have also verified that the MIDI transmit (TX) and receive (RX) channels are correctly configured and active, matching the channels in the iOS apps. 2. USB-MIDI Connectivity: I connected my Yamaha YC to my iPad using a compatible USB-to-Host cable. I confirmed that the YC is only receiving midi message from the apps (such as Korg IM1, Sampletank, Gospel Musician, Korg module app) so im able to play the sounds from them however key function like transposition is only applied to internal sounds on the YC and not to the external iOS sounds. NONE of the apps are receiving midi data from the instrument, if that makes sense. 3. Firmware Update: I checked for any available firmware updates for my Yamaha YC and confirmed that my current version is up-to-date. 4. Use of AUM and MIDI Data Transmission: I tested the setup using AUM, a popular audio routing app on iOS, to see if the YC would transmit the necessary data as a controller. The YC as a controller was not transmitting transposition data to external iOS sounds. If you have any further suggestions or troubleshooting steps I should take, please let me know. Thank you again for your support, and I look forward to your guidance.
