You should not spray anything on the caliper piston it will affect the dust seal and piston seal....they will become hard and can cause caliper jamming issues....you can trust this me as i am a brake designer🙃 and thank you for spreading such a detailed and informative video

I've been following your videos for some time and always eagerly look forward to a new upload. Really nice to see someone post quality DIY content for a great motorcycle which always doesn't get the service it deserves at SVC. I still go there because I don't have tools or confidence lol but eventually will have to get my hands dirty. I have a question with regards to valve clearance, I have R15 V3 ABS, it's 2 years old and has done almost 24,000 kms. Ever since the 10,000 mark I've always asked them to check the valve clearance and adjust if necessary and they always refuse, telling me the same thing that unless there is a major concern they will not touch the valves. They are just lazy I guess. Their theory is to not touch them and ruin factory settings. Now I don't have any issue with the biker performance or smoothness, just a slight noise from valves, they seem loose and SVC mechanics say it is normal. My inner "keeda" won't let me live in peace though, so next service ie at 25k should I insist on them to check the valves or let it be unless some issue happens? I would rather avoid that and be proactive with preventive maintenance. I have many questions but enough for now, sorry for the long comment. Awaiting your response, keep up the excellent work. Cheers!

Thanks mate. glad you found these vids useful and I commend you for your inquisitiveness and eagerness. It all starts from there only. On the subject of valve clearance, Its a long subject and often taken out of context. Understandably so considering there is so much of misinformation on youtube itself associating tappet adjustment or valve clearance to sound and noise coming from valve train. Would you be surprised if I told you that there is a good chance that whenever you decide to do it yourself or say convince a capable mechanic to do it, you or he will not be tightening them but actually loosening :) Thats what happens when bike has done a fair bit of mileage like yours, valve clearances get tighter and tighter, and we adjust or loosen them to bring them within spec for long valve life and engine life. The misconception of sound/ noise and tightening them only reduces the life and can also lead to complete premature engine failure. About Yamaha service people avoiding it, i am on their side cos lot of people want it done to reduce noise chatter of valve train, but as you can guess any experienced mechanic on opening the valve cover will only be adjusting it to spec and loosening the valves adjuster in the process. Thus as you can imagine, only slightly increasing the noise which is actually a good thing so that engine can perform better and run long healthy life. Now imagine how a customer who dropped the bike at service to reduce noise will react when he pics up the bike only to find the noise has increased. Thats where the misconception and misinformation (thanks to youtubers) kick in. I am not saying it shouldnot be done but they are avoiding confrontations like these to happen. An ill advised mechanic (roadside or otherwise) will happily take our money and tighten it, noice reduces and happy customer. good business done. But whats happening to the bike here, no tappet sound, correct, but early valve burn and head seat wear. so a bike that could have done say 1 lac kms is now getting opened at say 30-40 or even earlier. now as for your bike, yamaha recommends 6000 kms for checking, half of the time adjustment wont be needed like i check mine last at 13000 on v3 and they were within spec. At the time of writing it i am in the process of doing it on v2, and they are out of spec and as you would have guessed by now, they need to be loosened. So yes you should have your checked now for peace of mind, and hopefully they would b within spec but they wont be loose I can assure you that, if at all they would require some loosening so more noise. If you ever do take things in your own hands as it seems you are quite passionate about it, may i recommend one thing to remember is that valve clearance is done at compression stroke at TDC, there are two TDC but its the compression stroke at which it is done. at other TDC they would be loose, its called the false TDC, its disheartening that most mechanics do know this and end up tightening valves at this TDC that reducing the noise and engine life too. There are lot of other nuances and I can go on and on and on. I think a vid on the subject would be easier option. Kudo to you again mate, glad so see the fire is still burning in the hearts of fellow young riders. Keep it going Stay safe

🙂 great observation identifying the bike in the background mate. And yup, I think the same too. And these are straight from 200 Duke from same time. Broke mine around 1400 kms back then and went for Duke option as axle and disk size was same back than. There is a post on Teambhp on this and coincidentally there is a very famous KZitem channel and auto journo who posted the pic of my cracked stock wheel on their channel. But let me be honest, I am third set of front rims now and bike has been through a a lot.

Hey mate, if using WD40, do it only after removing the pads and once caliper has been cleaned make sure there is no residue on disc. and then also clean the caliper with soapy water before assembly as any residue on pad or disk will affect braking. Best i would suggest either use brake cleaner or simply use soapy water and old toothbrush cheers 3M brake cleaner - amzn.to/3k2Jwtx

My apologies mate. I did do it on my Himalayan cos that had a battery issue, but v3 has no such issue so I am ok with headlight. If you are still curious about the basics on how to do it, please let me know and I will sent you the link for how I did it on Himalayan. Cos idea about identifying the wiring and what to bypass and what not to is the same. The thing is I dont get into unnecessary mods just to get views. And truly I think headlight mod in v3 is completely unnecessary considering that it has LEDs so there is hardly any major draw or drain on battery. Himalayan has a filament type helogen bulb thus battery drain issue. My sincerest apologies again mate, I can do it but I seriously dont see any point at all. Final words, please stay away from this channel, I am posting diy maintenance vids here for like minded riders who like to take care of their machines so thay can have memorable 100000s of mile with out ant issues I respect you as a biker, please dislike and stay away. There are plenty of show off biker channels with the kinda vids you are looking for. If you are having difficult time finding those please let me know and I will forward their links. Do you think the (seal piston and dust seal i.e rubber rings of rear brake caliper) of rtr200 and R15 match? In tvs they don't sell those parts separately, we have to buy the full assembly of the calpier, if these parts of tvs and yamaha matches then I can install them easily.

Hello bro. That was not wd40, that was break cleaner, works wonders but expensive. I hear ya mate, service center or local mechanincs dont remove the rear wheel to do this and try doing it with every thing installed thus making is hard to put the pads with the plate in. now as such there is no extreme side effect of not installing the plate, as without places there is slight resonance and also places keep things clean. but if you can find the plates, good, if not, that would be ok to ride like this
