Yamato was the biggest, strongest and the most powerful battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the second world war. Yamato and her sister ship, Musashi, were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 in) Type 94 main guns, which were the largest guns ever mounted on a warship.
Yamato was dispatched on a suicide mission in April 1945 under Operation Ten Go, where it was supposed to repel the Allied invasion of the island of Okinawa and subsequently ground itself and fire its weapons till it ran out of ammunition. But Yamato was sunk much before it ever got to Okinawa. In this video, I tell the story of battleship Yamato in Hindi.
