As much as I love Nastia, He Kexin, and Beth Tweddle, THIS was the best UB routine of the 2008 Olympics.

He and Liukin had really good routines in team final too! although Liukin never really got properly deducted for her atrocious dismount and He always had problems with the transfer to the high bar. so in my opinion Yang's routine was the most fluid and beautiful overall

Really just phenomenal technique, form, body line, execution. Exceptional work. My only complaint, which is a longtime problem for all the Chinese girls, is that the most basic skill, a cast to handstand, can often look so labored. She did quite well but you could detect just slight struggles when she did casts to handstand whereas everything else in the routine she did effortlessly.

Unpopular opinion: Yang Yilin should’ve won the gold for her UB routine. Yes He Kexin and Nastia were amazing but let’s be honest Yang is the moment.

That’s not an unpopular opinion. More people think that Yilin should have won than people who think Nastia should have win.

She should of absolutely have won if she did this routine in EF (my english's not so good). But in EF she had very late handstands. Idk a channel did the E-score of her and Nastia's final UB routine and Yang Yilin was a tenth higher so I guess Nastia was overscored

@nathan10120

Probably because Nastia getting a good score on her UB routine was the only way that the USA would even come close to winning the team gold so the judges took pity on her?

Yeah, no way Nastia TF routine was better than this. This was by far the cleanest 7.7 UB routine of the entire Olympics
@Zuranthium
2 жыл бұрын
Nastia's routine was more dynamic - a harder "mount", Inbars, layout Gienger, and harder dismount. They may have had the same start value in the code but Nastia's was more difficult (her Gienger and dismount have been given higher value since that time, for example). Purely in terms of execution I would say they are even in those routines. Yang Yilin had a worse transition to high bar, worse cast handstands, and some of her 1/2 turns were worse. She did the Healy and 1.5 pirouette better and had better form on the dismount.
@nathan10120

@@Zuranthium in the 2017-2021 code Yang Yilin’s routine was actually with 0.2 more than Nastia (6.0 - 6.2) and Yang had WAY better pirouettes compared to Nastia. She was also much cleaner and her dismount didn’t look like shit.
@Zuranthium
2 жыл бұрын
@@nathan10120 Yang was not better on all of her pirouettes, she is factually further off handstand on many of the 1/2 turn pirouettes if you measure the angles. You are just ignoring her other weaker areas too. Their routines are both 6.0 in the last code and in the current code Yang's is a 6.1 and Nastia's is a 6.3, but speaking of any code to date is pointless; none of them are accurate to the objective measurement of each routine (although the current code putting Nastia's routine as .2 higher is the most accurate). Obviously people would change their routines for a specific code too, for example Nastia loses .1 by including that L-grip Endo, simply because according to the rules it "breaks" the connection between her Inbar 1/2 and Ono (a great example of how dumb the rules are). Also, Nastia's dismount didn't look like shit.

I appreciated the great form even if the releases and connections aren't the really difficult modern ones, but it looked the routine was slow/labored. In contrast with a modern routine like Fan's where they are quick and precise. Fan's routine goes by so quickly that it feels that if I blink I may miss it. This routine seems to just slowly drag on. 2008 didn't have connection after connection though in general.

I don't understand why the coach keeps walking near her, wouldn't that be a huge distraction for her?
@nathalieng8079
2 жыл бұрын
That is called spotting, where a coach stands by in case the gymnast falls in a way that would cause injury. They have to be right next to them so they can either catch the gymnast or break their fall. Coaches often come up to the gymnast when they are about to do specific releases. It’s not a distraction to the gymnast if they’re used to it because they know the coach knows what they’re doing
