When installing 4" corrugated pipe on this catch basin I've always used tile tape as it will help keep roots out of the fitting area which over years will eventually grow into the pipe and or basin causing it to flow less and eventually clog. As far as putting 6" corrugated pipe on this basin it's a waste of money, the opening in the catch basin is only 4" and it will only flow the amount of water that a 4" pipe will flow. However, if you are installing more than one catch basin you can run a 4" corrugated lateral from each catch basin to a Wye pipe that is on a 6' main drain line. I would always recommend using tile tape on all fitting joints as it will help keep roots out and prolong the life of your drainage system.

Some nice techniques.. my primary critique would be that, tree roots can seek out leaking pipe joints and infiltrate and clog the piping.. which is why I'd recommend all corrugated pipes be water-tight taped, or use drainage pipe that can be glued together.

I'm all for saving money but the real expense in these projects is labour. Time costs money. Using Y junctions is a much better idea - it makes it much easier to clean out the pipe and also improves water velocity through the pipe.

just had some corrugated pipes installed with a catch basin, and notice the water sits, with light rain, with heavy rain no problem, water runs, but then stays, does it evaporate? i'm worried if water sits, it will attract mosquitoes, and smells, love your videos man!

Hi Chuck, Great videos and watch as much of them as I can. I have a question that I haven't heard you answer quite yet. What would you recommend for a drainage solution for standing water around property that had a predominant clay soil structure? Would a wider French drain be better for collection? Thanks and keep producing great videos!

I tried connecting the 4inch corrugated to the 6inch corrugated directly but it doesnt appear that a 4 inch hole saw is big enough. Should i be using something slightly larger?

They make a 6 inch adapter it's typically around 6 bucks

There is a land drain behind my house and someone damaged it with mini digger and now it constantly gushes water. The damaged section was contained by building a box around it out of flagstone and cement, but at night time I can hear it gurgling and its loud as hell. It's really annoying. I am considering buying a small length of replacement pipe and chopping a section out of it and joining in the new piece with 2 connectors. However the water gushes through it 24/7, even when it hasn't rained in weeks. Do you reckon it would be easy enough to fix while it's gushing water or am I asking for trouble?

You probably won't answer this but is there a situation you DON'T want to use a connector? I'm concerned it might shift where the water was going successfully (I'm adding another pipe going into a different direction)

You could let your water flow through gravel, but fittings are much better

@@appledrains so it's okay to have one pipe going under another in a different direction instead of connecting them together? Yes I'm adding the gravel as well
