Excellent! I need to attempt the repair on my Yashica 12, I'm just hoping the internals aren't that much different. Wish me luck.

This is gold. Like a dumb ass, I left the batteries in my 124g for years; as to be expected, they ate up the battery compartment. I hope to find a replacement part or construct a new one. Thank you.

Hello ...great video...i just opened my 124g because the needles were not coupled with the mechanism and found out that you can calibrate the meter for a 1.5V battery without the diode mod.. you just have to rotate the galvanometer all the way and hold it in place (because of the spring) , disengage the cog (pointed at min 9.19 in your video), and re-engage it after rotating back the galvanometer by a couple of teeth (trial and error here) . I just did it and tested the meter with a 1.5V battery in various light situations, comparing it with my Sekonic L308B. and the results are correct .

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't considered this. Is it accurate on all ISO settings?

@@davehyper7835 i did a quick test @400 iso and it seems accurate as well...will do a test at all iso and different light conditions and update the results if it can help

Do you know what part the shutter speed and aperture couple with the meter? I’m having the same problem.

Dave where did you get the socket wrench to take out the brass nut? I’ve measured the nut with calipers, and it looks to be 8mm. However, the opening just over 10mm. I’ve looked everywhere for something that matches those specifications, but have come up empty handed. Thanks.

Hi David, I purchased an 8mm bit for my multi bit screw driver. I then clamped the bit into a drill chuck. Span the drill up at slow speed and held a file to outside diameter of the bit to bring it down to approx 10mm to fit the focus knob opening.

Dave, exactly what kind of .2v diode did you use? I am not well versed in electronics and trying to understand how this works versus a resistor. Zenner diode? From what I read it says diodes won't work with a constant voltage. Huh? Seems to have worked for you. Where would I get one?
@davehyper7835

hi there. The diode used is a 1N34. it's an older germanium device that drops 0.2 volts instead of newer silicon ones that generally drop 0.6 volts. you can use a resistor but you'll pull current from the battery and drain it fairly quickly. despite the 1N34 looking like a zener, it is not and a zener is used for voltage stabilization. the best way by far to drop a small voltage is to use a small diode in series.

Another question... why did you not put the diode at the battery end? If this was all you were going to do and not have to fiddle with sensor would you put it at the battery end? Seems easier.

where the battery holder fits into the case is a little tight and the battery terminal itself screws into the chassis of the camera so i didn't fancy that area to put the diode. The rest of the wire passes near moving parts so i avoided that too. easiest and safest bet was to pop it in by the switch.

Hi there, voice in this video would have been perfect. Any way you can simply record your voice as an audio file while the video progresses. My EM is not working.

Hi, I have tried to add a voice over but it's not an option in the online youtube editor. There's text prompts all the way through the video and i would not be adding much more if i were talking to be honest. If you have questions regarding the 124g i'd be happy to try answer them. Cheers.

I've tried to add voice over with youtube on-line editor but i can't find how. maybe i can narrate a separate file and upload it to the video. I'll try over the weekend,
