I used 2 Yashica Mat cameras in the 1960s when I was a wedding. portrait and press photographer. I still use a 1957 Yashica Mat with the 75mm Lumaxar f3.5 lens now. It is so simple to achieve high quality colour and black and white pictures. I used a Praktica with a 30mm Lydith lens for candid shots back in the sixties. Now I use a Pentax Spotmatic with a Vivitar 28mm f1.9 Series 1 lens for candids. I also have an 8.1 megapixel Ricoh gr digital camera for black and white candids and street photos at 800 iso. The lens is a 5.9mm f2. 4 and the camera is set at shutter priority. Excellent cortasty and extremely sharp pictures. So I am up to date with my three favourite cameras.

Thanks for the video Alex. I bought a Yaschica Mat from eBay today and it should arrive soon. I did have an Halina camera, but that was many years ago in the 70s. I am also wondering it it was 127??? I am uncertain now. I recognised Stoke Newington and St. Mary's Church in the background of your video. I lived in Hackney for many years.

I recently bought one of these cameras, the Yashica Mat. So is the ASA dial just a reminder and does not affect how the camera operates?

Hi Alex, Excellent video! Is there a major difference in image quality between the Yashica Mat (Copal MXV) and Yashica Mat 124 (G)?
@AlexSavin
4 жыл бұрын
I can only speculate, but in film cameras image quality mainly depends on the lens (and condition of the glass) so if the lens is the same the image quality would be the same too.

Came across this video trying to figure out my yashica mat 66. I'm not getting anything from the shutter release and it seems to advance the film I have to qind it three times then hit the shutter release just to advance.

The photos on your 500px page are a joy! I have not yet gone 'medium format' but this Yashica mat looks the business. Have you done a video with the full film c41 development process with every item you use and the full process? Would be useful to me. Great stuff. Thank you.
@AlexSavin

Hey glad you liked the pics! I haven't done the C41 process video just because there are plenty of good ones already on KZitem. I use Tetenal solution, so basically if you look up something like "color film development at home Tetenal" it'll give you plenty of good vids. Good luck! Also the reason I've started developing color film at home was basically that my local shop wouldn't develop color medium film - so had to learn how to do this myself!

@@AlexSavin Thanks, alex. I've never done my own developing. Only starting because I just love the idea of experimenting with the Yashica 124G. Have used a DSLR for 4 years(all my photography life) and don't see why I should put up artificial limitations to my photography!

@@robertoosthuizen8718 124G looks cool - get some film, maybe a light metering app for your phone, and I'd say just find a lab if possible to develop / scan your first films
