Another Minister D owner here saying thank you for the video! Bought one today, shutter wasn't moving. Found it was the timed shutter release, for whatever reason it's gummed up and doesnt release on its own. So the camera works totally normal, so long as you don't try to use the self-timer.

I have found this to be a common problem although I am uncertain why. Most of the old cameras i have had, had faulty or sticky timers.

Thanks, I couldn't figure out how to get the front lens group off. Cleaned the shutter and aperture blades now and shutter runs smoothly again. ....now, to get the haze out of that front lens group....

Hi Sir, today I got one similar Yashica and the stuck shutter led me here. :D Thanks for the detail instruction. But before I try to detach the lens myself, I noticed that my camera shutter release doesn't have the click sound like your camera does. Is that a sign of more trouble with the inner system? And in case I can't detach the smaller lens part, is that okay to apply some fluid on the shutter leaves? Thank you in advance! :)

Hi Emily, its hard to say what the absence of the "click" could mean, the clock works could be gummed up at any number of places, you could still try cleaning the leaves and see if it helps, it wont hurt. Also I would hesitate to proceed if all glass is not removed. While it would be possible to clean the lens after the fact, doing it well enough to produce quality images is questionable, and will also limit your ability to clean the leaves. Im sorry I cant be more helpful. I still have a parts camera, I will look at it again and if I see anything that may be useful I will post it here. Good luck.

@@tobroken1965 Thank you so much! I'm a bit of hesitating because I don't have the tool to remove the back glass, but now I'll try to find one. :) Thank you again for your help!

@@tobroken1965 Oh wow, I figure out my camera is lacking the self-timer winder. It may break before I got it. The X-M winder is still there. I wonder how I can move it to the right position again. Cause I can't see any trace of the broken piece inner side.

@@HermiLazyycat It is possible to improvise a spanner tool however that comes with risk. If you may do more camera repair in the future a lens ring spanner is a good investment.

@@HermiLazyycat That I know nothing about as I never took the lens barrel apart. I did find my parts camera and will take it apart when I have more time. I will leave you this link in case you dont have a manual www.cameramanuals.org/yashica_pdf/yashica_minster_d.pdf

Hello everyone, I am writing this message out of respect to future internet travellers who stumble upon this video and have my same problem: I got ahold of my grandfather's Minister D a month ago, and I have been shooting film off it since. My personal problem with my Minister D is the self timer on the lens. I probably will have a quarter of my shots blank because of this issue. I pulled up the self timer on accident and forgot about it. For the camera to work with the self timer, you set the timer, advance the film, and press the trigger, however the self timer is stuck, so there was no countdown and the shutter wasn't opening. I wasn't hearing a sound either and I finally figured it out after going through half a roll of ultra max and an entire roll of hp5. I have to push hard on the self timer for it to finally click and the shutter opens. So, make sure your self timer is off and that you hear the shutter when you press down or else you will be like me and waste film/time.

I am not sure if I even still have that camera, I sold off a bunch to make room. As I recall the timer is buried down in the lens barrel with the clockworks for the shutter. I have done others and it possible to get to them and fix various problems, you will need good light steady hands and a loupe or other good magnifier. I never did one on a Minister D so I am sorry I cant be more helpful.
