After grievous treatment at the hands of Islamic State militants, those in the Yazidi camps of Mount Sinjar now have a different foe to face. The weather.
STORY-LINE:
Snow has buried the Yazidi camps on Mt Sinjar for the first time this year.
Even though the town of Sinjar was retaken by Kurdish forces from Islamic State militants over a year ago, many displaced Yazidis are still stuck on the mountain.
IS are still close to their areas and almost no reconstruction has been done.
Now they have the cold and the mud to contend with.
"I wasn't here for two days and when I came back it was freezing. Things had changed drastically and we can't get water anymore. We have no drinking water or for washing," said Haider Sado, a man who lives in one of the mountain settlements.
Families rely on NGOs and the government for heating oil (kerosene) but so far they've only received 50 litres and they complain that this won't be enough for very long, and the tents hold little warmth.
Another problem is that many don't have proper winter boots or indeed even warm enough clothes.
