I feel like this album is not getting the love it deserves because of how much more approachable It is than most of their previous works, (some that they admitted they struggled with when writing songs, “are people going to hate this because it’s not some extremely complex wankery?,” to paraphrase, but they ultimately decided on just writing what they wanted to write instead of writing for an audience-A sentiment I assume Omar Rodriguez-Lopez came to after pumping out ~30 solo records in the past several years.) I think as long as the reaction is not, “this is different and thus it is bad,” and you’ve recognized that they have a lot of songs that do not hit for you, (of course, most of their previous works are more album-centric and not song-centric, though this album is far more focused on the individual songs,) then it’s absolutely an acceptable reaction.

I don’t want to be one of those guys that say “you just don’t get it.” But you do, in fact, just not get it. There’s is some genius songwriting here that is going unnoticed.

I HIGHLY Recommend checking their albums in order.... They are Floyd level experiences. The only one I never got into was their last... Noctourniquet, but all the others are masterpieces to me.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with this one too much either. I liked when then were more chaotic, thrashy and intricate. I'm telling you, check out anything from their first album, or the whole thing for that matter. It will blow you away.

So you prefer dumb, loud songwriting to subtle and intricate songwriting.

@desmondcoppin591 Dumb and loud is something I'd never say to describe early Volta. It was progressive and intricate but it was also captivating. This new stuff puts me to sleep.
