This has been very helpful, I’m starting university next month studying psychology but I’m seriously considering graduate entry medicine afterwards because I came to the (late) realisation that I’ve wanted to be a doctor for a long time but haven’t had the confidence to entertain that idea. Thank you :)

Thanks so much! I did an interview recently on the channel with someone who switched from psychology to medicine, so be sure to check that out :)

This is superb! Glad I've found your channel. I'm currently a dissatisfied AHP, yearning to apply for GEM (but trying to be practical & save up!!), looks like your channel will be a valuable resource! Thanks.

This was very useful and interesting to see now that I will begin my journey in medicine in late September of this year.

Hi Ollie, stumbled upon your channel while watching GEM videos. Inspired; also kinda puts me back into my shell, why? Well, I'm currently studying for GAMSAT, I am 25 with a degree in psychiatric nursing, one year experience. I got a 2:2. Now, with these qualifications, given I do well on the GAMSAT what are my chances, going against students like yourself for a place? Let me explain my nerves; you have a degree in cellular biology, which is linked to medicine. I'm guessing. I'm only a nurse with a 2:2, also limited knowledge in science subjects, no alevels, so studying hard for GAMSAT. My guess is on an interview for one place someone like yourself would stand a better chance, don't wanna shoot my own foot. What do you think, what are your experiences? What are my chances? Any nurses in your course? And age, I'm going to do well on the GAMSAT for 2019 entry, I'll be 27, what's the age range like. Sorry for the long paragraph, and too many questions. Still researching.

Hi there :) I really don't know how different med schools allocate points etc for your degree standard, but if it was significant GEM courses would be dominated by Masters/PhD holders, which at least at Warwick is not the case. I would like to think that if a med school accepts a 2.2 then they wouldn't make it so it was unlikely for those students to realistically get in, because otherwise there'd be no point. I would expect that the GAMSAT performance + interview score would be the most important factors - again not 100% sure but I think that's reasonable, you could always ask the relevant universities. In terms of degree type, I haven't actually found my degree to be enormously useful because it was more bacteria-focused cell biology. One of my housemates on the course is actually a nurse and she started at 25, so really don't let age deter you, I think the average age for my cohort is something like 24/25. I'd absolutely recommend you give it a shot and see what happens :) There's another video I made on the demographics of my year which you might find useful - it's on the website linked in the description, you can also send me a message through there if you have more questions. Good luck!

PostGradMedic I really appreciate your prompt response. Wasn't expecting it so quick. Thank you. My guess is you're up late studying, haha. Anyway, will definitely watch the other video and ask further questions.

Congrats on starting med school :) I was wondering if I could ask your advice on something..I'm a 25 year old arts graduate however I am contemplating applying for GEM for entry 2019 and I understand Warwick & a few others accept applications from arts grads. I have not studied science since GCSE, would I have a chance getting in with relevant healthcare experience & solid GAMSAT scores? I'm also thinking of undertaking chemistry/biology a-levels but would like to avoid if I can as I work full time. Have you met any others from a similar background? I've spoken to a couple but they seem to be few and far between...

Hi Zoe! Here at Warwick about 10% of the course are non-science grads - as far as I know they only stipulate a 2:1 or better in whatever your degree is, Warwick don't look at your A-Levels or GCSEs. There are catchup classes and pre-reading bits and everyone seems to do perfectly well coming in that way :) Will be interviewing some arts grads on the course soon on the channel too, so watch out for that. Just mind out too, Warwick uses the UKCAT exam rather than the GAMSAT - might be best to take both for a round of applications.

Thanks for your reply! Awesome, sounds good, I would be interested to know what kind of work experience the arts grads got before applying as I'm assuming because of our lack of academic science background, the more work experience the better!

@@hassanjameslase4690 What I do now is basically use flashcards to create mindmaps and link topics together :) drawing lots of diagrams and coming up with mnemonics really helps too. With OSCEs it's just practice practice practice!
