This is year four of bike touring as a group and the final leg of circling Lake Michigan.
In 2020, a group of us took a small tour along Lake Michigan in Northwest Michigan. It was a shorter, low-stakes trip to see if touring was something we’d enjoy together. Turns out, it was. After that trip, we decided to circle the entirety of Lake Michigan, taking a week or so of vacation each year until it was done. In total, it took us four years, with a year off in 2023. The goal was never to rush but to stop and enjoy each section. Some days were 90 miles, others were 30. In total, we road roughly 1300 miles together on these trip. Outside of these trips, we rarely trained together, because most of us rarely trained individually (a bit self-deprecating, I would consider us to be moderate bikers).
Over the years, things changed-people switched bikes, bike bags and "sleep solutions," got married, had kids, etc. I wasn't able to document everything; putting things on film isn't my first instinct, and sometimes I missed entire days (as seen in this video). I also didn't get a GoPro until year three. I absolutely loathe being on camera, narrating, and editing, so I stitch these together quickly with mostly candid shots while riding. Dietrich captured some awesome Drone footage in 2022, and I bought my own in 2023. Ultimately, I think these videos are a keepsake for us, but I'll share them here for friends, family, and anyone interested in low-key bike touring. Feel free to ask me anything!
