As a fiercely proud Geordie,I am appalled to see this beautiful bridge in such a bad state ,it should never of been allowed to get in such a state. But the evil that is the Tory party is squarely to blame our region is probably the most neglected area in England, however we are a strong proud race up here and,as my gran would of said we may be lying doon but we're not deid yet!!! As a truck driver from Yorkshire I use the Tyne Bridge every week . The bridge has been looking decidedly shabby for the last few years , this is no way to treat such a monument ....and it is a monument to the North East absolutely . It will be a nuisance but , wow it will be worth it when its done . Stay safe all of you working on it 😊.

I’m sure if it was that simple they would have done it. Can't believe it was allowed to get into that state. When i walk over it i feel sad atm so glad it's being refurbished.. If tha same bridge was across the Thames it would have never gotten into that state.. London £££

I walk by the Tyne bridge regularly and it is in desperate need of a decent paint job. It had one a few years ago but it never lasts. I think it’s the pollution from the cars. If only there was a paint that would last a century. The Tyne Bridge is if not the icon of the North East and to see it looking shoddy is embarrassing.

Tyne Bridge isn't really that busy these day, even with 4 lanes
