Dude.. I gotta say, I absolutely LOVE your videos. I’ve learned so much from you, and really appreciate everything you do! I started playing guitar at 10, but dropped it in favor of bass.. eventually about 30 years later Covid hit, and I decided to pick up guitar again. Since then I’ve learned more songs than I can honestly even remember, tons of techniques, and am getting better every day, and I still visit your channel regularly! Thank you for what you do! Keep ‘em coming! 🤘🏽

This song has been in my brain since it first came out, and the guitar parts have always kinda mystified me (other than the opening chords, and even with that I didn't realize that TR uses the low E string for that Fat A). After seeing you play through the clean rhythm part, I now know why I could never figure it out by ear (mine isn't that great). And also, I knew he used an (Eventide?) harmonizer on the solo, but I didn't realize he has both the 5th above and an octave below happening. Now I do -- thanks for taking the time to do this vid!

A few things after listening to the multitracks: During the verse there are two panned guitar tracks playing a similar but slightly different verse riff. One is playing ever so slightly palm muted while another is playing fully palm muted. It seems to me, at least during the first verse, that neither guitars play the 7th fret G string D and open D string together at all. What I'm hearing is the more open guitar playing the 7th fret D as the last note in the phrase, and the fully muted guitar playing the open D as that last note. I think for the earlier part of the riff where it seems like those two notes are being picked is just an artifact of the heaps of 80s chorus drenching the tracks. After that part, those notes being held out sound more to me like: open high E, B string on the 5th fret, G string on the 7th fret. I don't think there's any octave up effects on this part. The little arpeggiation in between these bits (E, D, G, D, G... labelled "GTR 3" in the multitrack) sound a lot like harmonics to me. They can be a bit of a stretch to play, but then he plays a three note harmonic arpeggiation on that same track that just isn't possible on a guitar in standard tuning, which makes me think he is either really quickly and cleanly playing artificial harmonics or he's playing a guitar that has been tuned in a different way.

Awesome. Very informative. But perhaps you can play two bars straight through without stopping to explain the fingering so we can make sense of the groove. I personally would find it easier to get the feel if you were to repeat 4-bar segments a few times while I played along. Timing is just as integral to nailing these some-what tricky parts as is fingering. Wait! There it is! Now you're rolling. I spoke too soon.

Estou voltando a tocar , depois de 45 anos parado totalmente. Já toquei violão quando criança, agora comprei guitarra e voltei às aulas com um professor. Meu grande sonho é aprender a tocar 2 músicas . Essa música do Yes e " Do It again" do Steele Dan .

Thanks for a really awesome tutorial Carl. I love your smile of satisfaction at the end of the solo demonstration. I would be super keen to know what harmoniser you're using for the solo?
