I'd love to know your story. I subscribed because I know it matters. ;) Thank you for showing interest in our musical culture! As for these lyrics, poetry is lost in the translation. I wish you'd speak Greek, to really understand the deepness of the lyrics. Come visit Greece sometime, you've made a lot of friends!!

Fun fact milismatic singing started from ancient greek and the arabs clearly stated that they took that singing from greece. But now days everyone thinks of like middle Eastern countries when they hear that style because of the cultural appropriation of greece and it's Eastern roots. Greece is BOTH WESTERN AND EASTERN

Yiannis Kotsiras - Damn You There are times, I swear to God that I need you so much that seas and oceans run from my eyes Send a letter, a single syllable, If you believe in god for I hang from your lips and I am at your mercy Damn you, Don't you have any sympathy for me that I'm burning up and melting that you made me love you and now I'm withering away My thoughts have been locked in the cells of my mind oh, how much I want to tell you but there are no words Damn you, Don't you have any sympathy for me that I'm burning up and melting that you made me love you and now I'm withering away.

Greek music has great tradition through millennia. This particular kind of notes 🎶 are based on vizantine notes used for chanting in church but also used by the populus to express the everyday life and heartache. This is as traditional as it gets. Thank you for appreciating 🙏

Wonderful example showing and reminding us the fact that modern Greek music derived directly from Byzantine music often combined with maybe a few Middle East instruments which may not be Greek but from build were based on Byzantine scaling due to the fact that the Byzantine empire was the largest in physical scale and part of the East was included in the empire.

Giannis Kotsiras , is the most soothing male Greek singer we have , but to be honest if you put a balance between the words singer and performer he is the late . Quality and passion are the two words expressing him the best all through his career which is around 25 - 30 years till now . The song is about a man secretly talking to a woman he loves but he might never have so the lyrics are his thoughts expressed aloud . This show is a typical Greek television Saturday night show with lots of music , paying tribute 8 times out of 10 to some great Greek composer , or song writer or even so legendary singer/ performer .

Μαντω does not have the same repertoire although i believe she can support a lot of types of songs. If you want, you can listen to her on your face sounds familiar. She has done some very good imitations. I think she is the most beautiful voice we have. She has been retired for a long time, unfortunately, but I have seen on KZitem a few songs she released again. He has a divine tone, incredible vocal range. For me, she could even sing opera. She has been compared by one of our lyricists, and not unfairly, to great names from abroad. Her songs, although commercial, differ from several contemporary modern songs that have no quality at all. I also recommend Μάριο Φραγκούλη.However, if you prefer such songs (that is, artistic, folk) I would suggest Χαρούλα Αλεξίου ,Γιάννη Παριο who is an amazing top performer, Δημήτρη Μητροπάνο, Μαρινέλλα, Ελευθερία Αρβανιτάκη and old singers Τζένη Βάνου, Μανώλη Χιωτη, and Μαίρη Λίντα , Ρένα Βλαχοπούλου ( Ρενα is an actress of the old Greek cinema as well as a singer, write Ρενα Βλαχοπούλου songs on KZitem so that you can listen to her if you write only her name, it is more likely that she will bring you her movies.) In general, there were many actors with beautiful voices and Δημήτρη Παπαμιχαήλ and Αλίκη Βουγιουκλάκη who was also a singer. The movie songs were very nice. You can write if you want Greek movie songs, any of them are in the same style as Kotsira's song but also have happy songs. )

You nailed the style at the start. It is, as you said, melismatic, where the singers take a note and kind of express it in a non-flat way, stretch it out so to speak. It was prevalent throughout the European continent and Asia going way back in time. I believe you would thoroughly enjoy Farya Faraji on KZitem, a Canadian-Persian composer who goes into great depth in technical matters and jargon, as well as the history of music. Great reaction BTW.
