Recipe:
1lb Kataifi
3 Sticks of unsalted butter, melted
3/4 lb. walnuts, chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
pinch of salt
Syrup:
3 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. water
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Brush some butter on bottom of 13 x 9- inch pan. Shred half of Kataifi and place on bottom of pan. Mix together walnuts with cinnamon and cloves and add a pitch of salt. Sprinkle nut mixture on Kataifi. Shred other half of Kataifi on top of nut mixture. Drizzle remaining butter on top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, or until light brown. While Kataifi is baking, boil sugar and water for 10 minutes. Add lemon juice. Pour hot syrup over hot Kataifi. Let cool before cutting into squares. Kataifi can be bought online or ethnic grocery stores
