This was done so well... We need the entire movie XD The little words that change the atmosphere entirely into a Yid speaking these words (א גוי, זיין ייִדל, גן עדן), not just a translation, gives it a real character worth embracing.

From what I understand it depends on where in Germany they are from. Some dialects/accents are more like Yiddish and some are very different.

The character of Vito Corleone was partly based on Charlie 'lucky' Luciano who as the best friend of Meyer Lansky (Hyman Roth in part II) spoke at least some Yiddish. See Vincent Piazza in Boardwalk Empire.

Jahan Zeitzev Jahan, the clip is from the movie, "The Godfather." And the person who posted the clip translated the dialogue from the original English into the Yiddish language. Yiddish is a language which was original spoken in Eastern Europe but is spoken by very few people now and is dying out.

englisch: now she will never be beautiful again . yiddish: jetzt wird se kein mal wird sein shejn. In german you could say :Jetzt wird sie kein mal wird sein schön, but you wouldn`t say it like that you would say Jetzt wird sie nie wieder schön sein. Yiddish IS a Germanic language that sounds very close to German, because it's closely related. I'm German and i understand much of what the "godfather" says, but it's not German.
@benoitpellet1657
7 жыл бұрын
No, it's "Litvak" Yiddish. It's certainly not German because the German grammar and syntax rules are entirely flouted (infinitive verb not moved to the end of the sentence, etc.). Yiddish has its origins of course from middle High German (although written in Hebrew characters), but it also has plenty of "loanwords" from Hebrew, Russian and other "diaspora" countries, as you might expect.
